Editor's Note: A spokesperson from Clubhouse reached out to us, saying some correction on the first version of this article with the headline suggesting Clubhouse's Oprah room only had 23K listeners. As per the spokesperson, the metrics for the room weren't wholly accurate and said the 40K people tuned in across two recordings because there was a room "glitch," dividing it into two different recordings with two different audience numbers that he says are cumulative.

Clubhouse's head of global marketing, Maya Watson, got on the social media app on the night of Nov. 15, and she brought Oprah Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King with her.

Together with the Clubhouse subscribers, the three women talked about Oprah's Adele interview and its process.

The guesting of one of Hollywood's biggest celebrity names is a win for any social media platform. The exclusive chat was immediately followed by the premiere of a highly anticipated two-hour interview.

Clubhouse's Underwhelming Stream

Despite the powerhouse lineup, the whole interview only attracted 23,000 people. The number includes those who might have even just dropped in for a couple of seconds before leaving.

However, on CBS, the whole special attracted 10 million people. The incident could be interpreted in numerous ways.

One of them is that the Clubhouse team and Oprah herself suffered from a lack of marketing within the platform.

If the network had promoted the special simultaneously with the Clubhouse after-event, maybe it would have stood a better shot at reaching a lot of streamers. But unfortunately, that did not happen.

Although, those who were able to watch it said that their experience was great and the interview was well built.

Clubhouse's Celebrity Hosts

Clubhouse is the social media streaming platform that garnered popularity during the peak of the pandemic when everyone was forced to stay at home.

The platform had hosted a lot of celebrities to keep their subscribers entertained. It became the place where stars could talk about issues that they couldn't talk about in regular interviews, and it became a way for them to connect with their fans.

USA Today. said the celebrities who used the social media platform are Kevin Hart, Elon Musk, Meek Mill, and Tiffany Haddish.

Clubhouse is an exclusive, invite-only app where subscribers worldwide can gather and listen to celebrities, speakers, entrepreneurs, and ordinary people and engage in conversation. It is an audio-only chat room where users can join groups discussing topics they may like.

In November, Kevin Hart was able to find a room titled "Is Kevin Hart Funny?" and he joined the conversation.

In the same month, "American Idol" winner and singer Jordin Sparks held a listening party for her new album "Cider & Hennessy."

In January, Elon Musk appeared on the platform to discuss different topics, from SpaceX to the coronavirus pandemic. He even brought Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev with him to talk about GameStop's stock debate.

In February, Lupe Fiasco moderated a discussion on cancel culture, and Tina Knowles Lawson hosted a virtual dinner party.

Hollywood celebrities log in to Clubhouse for a lot of reasons. MC Hammer dropped by the app to talk about cryptocurrencies; Meek Mill also uses the app and has been the center of a viral conversation when he discussed Black men not supporting other Black men.

In 2020, 21 Savage appeared on the platform and sat in for an interview with fellow rapper DJ Akademiks.
