Apple iOS 15.2 beta brings an interesting feature that will let your family access your data when your death. It might sound creepy at first, but this would secure your data in the hands of a trusted owner.
According to News18, the Cupertino giant introduced the Digital Legacy Program, where you can assign up to five persons as your contacts. All the information you have stored when you are alive is kept in iCloud. From there, they could see your documents, photos, and other things you own.
To learn more about this feature, here's a quick guide on using it.
Adding Legacy Contact
Since this feature is in the beta phase, it will sometimes go unstable because the developers are still deploying improvements to the system. As early as now, you can test it to have a quick look at what it could offer to the users.
There are a few steps to consider if you are planning to add a digital legacy contact. Before diving into the procedures, make sure that your iOS is updated to the latest version.
- Go to the Setting Apps of your device.
- Click your profile picture that will direct you to the Apple ID settings.
- Tap the Password & Security.
- Then, click the Legacy Contact once you see the screen bearing a description of the feature.
- After that, start verifying your account by encoding the password or by Touch/Face ID.
- The app will ask you to whom you will share your account once you die. It's much better if you enable Family Sharing.
- Tap the name of the member, or you can opt for "someone else" from your contacts.
- Click Next once you're done with the selection.
- Now that you are on "How Legacy Contact Works," press Continue.
- Proceed to Access Key sharing. There are two options for that: printing a copy or sending an iMessage to your preferred contact.
- After you accomplish any of the two, the person that you have selected can now request any data from you.
- If you want to add another contact to your Legacy list, repeat the steps.

Removing Legacy Contact
There's a quick way to remove the Legacy Contact if you already set it up. Here's how it works, according to Macrumors.
- Go to the Settings app and click your profile picture.
- Look for Password & Security and tap Legacy Contact.
- Click the name of the specific contact who has access to your information.
- Then, tap "Remove Contact." A reminder will appear that it will not alert the person that you have removed him from your list.
Access Key For Legacy Contact
Obtaining data will not be easy, especially for sensitive cases like this. For that, Apple will use an access key for proper data assessment and security.
Previously, we wrote printing or sending your access key as two ways to share it. Remember that your trusted person should store it in a safe location. Another friendly reminder when using it is the accurate typing of your birth date.
