Many iPhone models are actually splash, water, and dust resistant. These include:

The Apple website recommends taking these steps to avoid liquid damage altogether:

  • Swimming or taking a bath with your iPhone

  • Exposing your phone to pressurized water (showering, surfing, jet skiing, etc.)

  • Using your phone while in the sauna or steam room

  • Submerging your iPhone in water

Should your iPhone ever get wet by any other liquid other than water, the first thing you have to do is rinse the affected area with tap water. After that, use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe your iPhone.

You have to make sure that the device is dry before you open the SIM tray.

According to Apple, "To dry your iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow."

You can also opt to place your device before a fan blowing cool air directly into the Lightning connector to help dry it.

Apple warns against "using an external heat source or inserting a foreign object, such as a cotton swab or a paper towel, into the Lightning connector."

What to Do When Your Phone Gets Wet, According to Samsung

For Samsung devices, what you have to do when your phone gets wet is actually pretty straightforward and simple. What you have to keep in mind is that you should not turn on the device while it is still wet.

First, you have to separate the battery and the SIM card from the device. After that, you can start drying the device. You may use a hairdryer in order to do so.

You should only turn on the device once you are sure that it has dried well. Should it not turn on, Samsung recommends that you already bring your phone to customer service.

What to Do When Your Phone Gets Wet, According to Huawei

If you have a Huawei device, the company recommends that you first put your phone "in a dry and well-ventilated environment and wipe the surface dry with tissue paper." You likewise have to make sure to turn off your phone first.

Once you've done so, remove the SIM card as well as any memory card that might be inserted in your phone. Should it still not work after drying it with tissue paper, it is recommended that you bring your phone to the customer service center as well.

Huawei does not recommend drying your device using a hairdryer or any other heat-producing device.
