Mortal Kombat X is more than just a pretty face: the latest entry in one of the oldest gaming franchises ever is looking to change a lot of things up. Instead just picking a fighter, now players can choose between three individual fighting styles. Instead of every stage being nearly identical, all stages now come with unique hazards and traps. Instead of playing with the original cast with little-to-no changes, a huge list of new characters has been created.
That being said, it wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without a core group of fighters. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden...they're all synonymous with Mortal Kombat. While NetherRealm Studios has been focusing a bit more on the newer characters for some time now, the latest trailer for the game is all about the classics: Kung Lao and Kitana are both officially joining the roster!
As with other returning characters, Kung Lao and Kitana look right at home in Mortal Kombat X. Kung Lao has certainly aged quite a bit, but that bladed hat of his is still both hilariously impractical and extremely satisfying to use. Kitana looks more or less the same, and the bladed fans that have defined her character seem to have made the transition to next-gen intact. Of course, Kung Lao and Kitana are also set to receive the three individual specializations that the other fighters have, though NetherRealm hasn't gone into much detail just yet.
The trailer finishes off with a brief glimpse of what looks to be Goro's official in-game character model, but it's far from a detailed glimpse. While it's still the best look fans have gotten so far, it's far from Goro in action - at the very least, the four-armed goliath makes for a decent pre-order incentive.
The only question left is...who's next?
Mortal Kombat X will hit store shelves on April 14.
