Apple AirPods are now the giveaway for teenagers that would get a COVID-19 Vaccine in Washington, D.C., and Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced this to her constituents earlier today. Both parent and teens would be rewarded in this case, and indeed, it is a win-win for the residents of Washington to getting the vaccine and receiving rewards in the process.
In the U.S., the government has to give bribes for people to get vaccinated against the virus, despite many residents from other countries are already fighting over it. People in other countries figuratively risk their lives just to get one, but that is the reality the world is facing now, as it is more accessible in the States.
Washington to Reward Teens with Free AirPods
According to Mayor Bowser's recent tweet (@MayorBowser), only people aged 12 to 17 years old are eligible for the rewards, and on three selected vaccination sites around Washington. This must also be their first shot or dose, and should be on:
- Brookland MS
- Johnson MS
- Sousa MS
This initiative's goal is to promote vaccines to lower the age of eligibility and not only among adults 18 years old and above.
Not only are the AirPods the things up for grabs here, as Mayor Bowser revealed that there would be some kind of raffle, where these vaccinated teens would have a chance to win more. That includes a $25,000 scholarship or a bundle of iPad and headphones.
Both prizes were unverified or unspecified by the Mayor or her office, whether the money prize would be given as cash; and what model of the iPad and headphones are up for grabs as well.
Parents Are in On the Treat Too
Parents are also part of the giveaway process, as they can receive a $51 VISA gift card which they can spend on anything, provided that they are the legal parent or guardian of the teen getting their vaccine.
It is a win-win for both the parents and teenagers, as not only would they get AirPods, but also have a chance for a raffle and the different add-ons by this initiative.
Students aged 16 to 21 years old are also eligible for a gift card or AirPods, provided if they are available.
COVID-19 Vaccine Still Face Anti-Vaxxers
The country is now shifting its focus to select communities, including that of the anti-vaxxers that are against the shots, or to the children or teenagers already eligible for the vaccine. The age of eligibility has lowered earlier this year, and studies have shown it to be beneficial for them.
Vaccine developers and manufacturers are on the verge of making a vaccine for lower ages of eligibility or COVID-19 Vaccine for Kids, for those 12 and below. The country is strengthening the effort of getting immunity for its residents and has been aiming to give everyone a chance to return to normal, in the coming months.
