Have you ever wondered how content creators and pages monetize their content on Facebook? The process is actually relatively straightforward, but can overwhelm anyone trying to monetize content on Facebook for the first time.
If you are trying to figure out how to make money from content on Facebook, here is a quick guide on how to go about it.
How to Monetize Content on Facebook: Check Your Eligibility
The first step on how to monetize content on Facebook begins with checking your eligibility first. Doing so will save you from all the hassle if you happen to not be eligible for content monetization to begin with.
According to Facebook, in order to make money from content, "your entire Page and its content must adhere to our rules for monetisation."
These rules come in three sets and your page must adhere to all of three of them. These three rules are the Facebook Community Standards, Partner Monetization Policies, and Content Monetization Policies.
Partner Monetization Policies are standards that are "typically applied at the Page level and address the behaviour of your Page as a whole." These include rules that cover the content of your page as well as how said content is shared.
Content Monetization Policies, on the other hand, focuses on the content of each post your page publishes.
Other Content Monetization Requirements to Meet in Order to be Eligible
There are also other requirements that your page and content must meet, such as eligibility in the Creator Studio, in-stream ads eligibility (only applicable to Facebook pages), fan subscriptions eligibility, and brand content access and policies.
To check for eligibility in the Creator Studio, simply go to the Facebook section, click Monetization, and choose the page you want to see information about.
In-stream ads eligibility requirements include publishing videos from a page and having a minimum of 10,000 followers.
For Facebook fan subscriptions, it is only available by invitation only.

Ways to Monetize Content on Facebook
Let's say you passed all the requirements and you are eligible to make money from content on Facebook. Now what?
Facebook actually offers a few ways to monetize your content on the platform. These are in-stream ads, fan subscriptions, branded content, and subscription groups.
In-stream ads: In-stream ads are basically short ads that are included in videos your page publishes. You can choose where to place the ad or let Facebook do it for you. The number of views of the video as well as who the advertiser is are some of the things Facebook looks into when determining how much you have earned.
This kind of monetization is recommended for long videos and those suitable for advertising.
Fan subscriptions: As previously mentioned, fan subscriptions are currently by invitation only for now, but it will be good to know about it should it one day be available for more content creators. Fan subscriptions "allow the audience that cares most about your Page to directly fund it through monthly, recurring payments that you set."
Branded content: Facebook has a tool called Brand Collabs Manager that connects content creators to brands looking to work with them. However, in order to tag a business partner in a branded content post, you must request for access from Facebook first.
Subscription groups: Are you an admin of a group with a large, active community. Subscription groups let you monetize content posted in the community.
How to Get the Money You Earned From Facebook
Once you are eligible and are able to use any of the ways for content monetization Facebook has provided, it is time to make sure you actually receive your earnings. To do so, you should set up a payout account.
Note that only accounts eligible for in-stream ads or fan subscriptions can set up a payout account. Make sure that your account ticks all the boxes in the account setup checklist.
Once you've set that up, voila! You're ready to monetize content on Facebook!
