Starting with a 12-issue miniseries in 2000, Garth Ennis' run on Punisher brought the character back to his dark, gritty roots. The success of the mini-series saw Ennis continue on with the character through two more ongoing series, with more than 60 issues of the Punisher's violent war on crime under his belt.
Now you can snag each and every issue of Ennis' Punisher work for half off over at Comixology. At 99 cents apiece, it's a steal for Punisher fans who want digital copies of some of these classic comics, or the perfect entry point for readers who have yet to experience the dark humor and realism Ennis' run is known for. Or, just to relive the majesty of Punisher punching a polar bear right in the face:
Ennis would eventually move from the Marvel Knights line, where the book was focused on dark humor, to Marvel's MAX imprint, which served as an outlet to write more mature and violent stories. Ennis capitalized on the opportunity and used MAX to tell even darker stories about the gun-crazed vigilante, while also using the book as an outlet to address current events like the War on Terror. He would also use MAX as a means to explore more of the tragic backstory of Frank Castle, showing him as a Vietnam veteran who first embraced his inner 'Punisher' to survive an assault from the Viet Cong.
It's all a great read and more than worth the 99 cent price tag. If you are interested, it's best to act sooner rather than later -- the sale ends Jan. 15.
