Fans of The Vampire Diaries are in for a shocker after they find out that actor Steven R. McQueen will no longer be a regular on the show. The actor, who plays Elena's brother, Jeremy, will take his final bow in the next episode, as he moves on to things bigger and better.
It makes sense for Steven McQueen to make the decision of leaving the show because his character does not deliver much of anything at all. He's just known as Elena's brother, a guy with the power of a hunter who sits around all day crying over his not so dead girlfriend, and getting himself drunk.
Despite the outing of the character, fans can expect to see him pop-up now and again at weddings and other important events. Yes, that is what the Jeremy character has been reduced to after all these years.
Interestingly enough, the creator of The Vampire Diaries, says that with the loss of every character, it slowly feels like the team is getting one step closer to the end of the show. She did not state when this will be, but it is clear that it is being planned and could happen in the next 2 years or more.
"I got really nostalgic and really emotional about it because I said to Ian [Somerhalder], every episode and every character goodbye that we do now feels like we're just one goodbye closer to the end," says Julie Plec to Variety. "I'm sure there's somebody out there that wants the show to go 20 seasons, but it won't.
That's right fans, The Vampire Diaries is currently in its 6th season, and is destined to end in the next 3 years or less. We also expect the spin-off show, Originals, to end around the same time as Vampire Diaries. We could be in for one big crossover event showdown to send both shows on their way.
At the end of the day though, we hope Steven McQueen the best as he looks to greener pastures outside of The CW, or within. Who knows, he might one day end up as a DC character.
