Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 Vaccine is Protective Against Delta Variants, But Is It Safe for Public Use?

Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 Vaccine was found to be effective to protect against the Delta Variant, and it would be an ideal shot to gain immunity from the virus. Initially, J&J's vaccine was detested by many, especially the alleged side effects it caused against the people that were administered by it, during when it was first distributed.

COVID-19 vaccines have different sources and make, with Pfizer & BioNTech and Moderna using the mRNA-based, while AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson's are using adenovirus for its creation.

According to J&J's recent report on its vaccine efficacy, the company has found that the immunization shot that it created was protective against Delta Variant, which is a fairly new variant in the virus landscape. What the company detailed was good news, and it said that its effectiveness to protect against the Delta is fairly high.

"Current data for the eight months studied so far show that the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine generates a strong neutralizing antibody response that does not wane," said Mathai Mammen, M.D., Ph.D., Global Head, Janssen Research & Development, Johnson & Johnson.

This eases the worries of the more than 12 million Americans who were vaccinated by the company's immunization shot, which was initially feared by people in the earlier days it was introduced. That being said, the J&J vaccine's single-shot is already highly effective against the Delta, unlike what was initially found by experts with Pfizer and AstraZeneca's which is more effective with its full dose.

Is J&J's Vaccine Safe to Use?

To answer this question, there are still believed side effects on all vaccines, including that of Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca. Side effects like fever, heaviness on the shoulders, and other regularly observed symptoms after the vaccination. CDC has approved the J&J COVID-19 vaccine last May, and this means that it has studied it and categorized it as a safe shot for people.

Like AstraZeneca, Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine is made with adenovirus, which is the traditional base of modern vaccines, unlike the new and novel approach of Pfizer and Moderna with the mRNA. The difference in approaches in vaccine creation may create somewhat a veil of doubt among others, but if the country's health experts have approved it, then it is safe and sound.

Delta Variant: How Spread Out is it in the US?

According to CNN, the Delta variant composes 20 percent of the positive infection rates of COVID-19 in the country, and this is an alarming one for people, especially those who are not yet vaccinated. Currently, the reconsideration of mask use protocols is being thought off, and would soon be regulated again for the safety of all.
