"Diablo 4" bragged about its more in-depth character creator like never before by showcasing it for all to see.
Diablo 4 New Character Designs
Blizzard, the publishers of the ever popular "Diablo" franchise, has shared several screenshots in its pre-alpha footage.
Art director John Mueller has said that the work seen is a very real representation of what you will be able to see when the game eventually comes out. Not only did Mueller share that the character design is now more diverse than ever, but also a few other tidbits about the upcoming "Diablo 4."
It goes without saying that fans that are eagerly waiting for the game's release have a quality of detail that was not available to other previous titles of the IP, such as stylish armors, monstrous hellhounds, and gruesome gore explosions for all to enjoy -- exactly what you'd expect from a "Diablo" game.
Blizzard's Latest Blog Post
If you haven't been keeping up with what Blizzard usually does in preparation for a game's launch, they have quarterly updates posted on their website.
For this quarter, the team working on "Diablo 4" has displayed an impressive visual overhaul. Luis Barriga is the game director that said that it is of imperative importance for the different classes and monsters.
Mueller goes on to say that he and his team stresses the balance between clarity and realism that fans crave of the action-RPG game. The overall goal was to deliver detail in a "warm quality" of "Diablo 3's" already engaging cinematics to life, which needed a "complete overhaul" regarding the game's art pipeline.
Art Team's Biggest Challenge Yet
As Mueller said, the biggest challenge for the team was creating character customization, saying, "We made massive improvements to the level of detail, the surfacing of complex materials like skin, cloth simulation, hair, fur, metal, even down to the details of the highlights of the eyes and rivulets of perspiration."
He further said that they have built a vast character customization system based only on "Diablo."
"Diablo 4" is the only game in the on-going franchise that has a lot of customization offered to players. The previous versions didn't have a lot of choice in terms of customizing their character to their liking except to make them male or female.
This time, thanks to the hard work of the art team, you may now change the face of your character. You can now change thei facial hair, hairstyle, add jewelry, tattoos or body paint, among other things. Some of the visual changes are specific to classes and their unique backgrounds.
The character customization system had to be made for a lot of models and not just a specific character, hence the number of changes had to be accessible for all units and classes. We will just have to wait and see when the game will be officially released but for now we can enjoy the screenshots while we wait.
