CDC Warns India's COVID-19 Delta Variant to Spread in the US If Vaccines Don't Get Distributed Now

The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has warned the United States of an impending massive spread of the Indian COVID-19 Delta Variant in the coming weeks. The CDC suggests the ramping up of the vaccination campaign by the US government and health agencies to fight against this.

The Delta Strain has proven to be one of the most notorious variants of the virus since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which shocked the world and forced it into a lockdown.

The variant that came from India, the Delta, and the Kappa are no joke and not to be taken lightly. They are far more contagious than the original Wuhan variant, says recent studies. The recent reports by various agencies have centered on the fact that the Delta Variant has claimed many lives on a global scale, and it is affecting those without vaccines.

However, this does not go beyond saying that even those with the first dose are still susceptible to it. They are not as well protected as those with a full dose of the shot. The most effective vaccines against the Delta and Kappa are Oxford & AstraZeneca's, Pfizer, and BioNTech. These two shots promise 60 and 79 percent protection against the Indian variant (respectively).

According to Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding (@DrEricDing), the United States has a month to fully vaccinate against the COVID-19 Delta Variant, or else it would suffer the same fate as the UK and Australia.

And even though vaccinations are getting delivered around the country, it is still not enough, say many experts, especially the President of the United States, which would not achieve the 70 percent by July 4. The initial goal was promising, especially as the vaccination saw a surge in applications and drive around the country.

However, the health experts did not expect that the supply and demand did not meet each other, and not to mention the number of anti-vaxxers in the country, which may be the same as anti-masks. Still, the country has to push forward amidst these setbacks and have the vaccines distributed to every adult for now.

What is the Status of US Vaccination?

The fully vaccinated statistics from CDC has only recently 0.1 percent since the last reports that TechTimes has viewed, which is currently at 46.1 percent. This number is still a long way from the goal of 70 percent, as much as it is from the halfway point.

On the other hand, the number of people with at least one dose of the vaccine is now at 54 percent, and it has also risen slightly from its previous statistics.

Even though people are fully vaccinated or at least one dose vaccinated, they are still advised to wear face masks not to get exposed to the Delta Variant, which is believed to be spreading in the country.
