Castlevania's Old Titles Rumored to Return — But Which Games Might Be Included?

"Castlevania" hasn't released a game in its original series since 2009. Its "Lords of Shadows" series hasn't released one either since 2014. It has been a long time, but fans may soon have something relatively new to look forward to.

According to reports, some of the old "Castlevania" titles are rumored to make a return to newer gaming consoles.

Per Kotaku, a listing for a "Castlevania Advance Collection" has been found first in a game rating database in Australia. A second listing has now been spotted in South Korea. The Australian listing states that "Castlevania Advance Collection" will be multi-platform. The South Korean listing states it will be PC only.

These listings have led to speculation among fans and media alike that the Game Boy titles of the franchise are about to make their way to newer platforms.

The same article also claims that M2, a studio known for accurately emulating classic titles, is working on "Castlevania Advance Collection."

Castlevania: What is It?

For those unfamiliar with the franchise or in need of a refresher, "Castlevania" is a video game series published by Konami that features horror, action, adventure, and gothic elements. The first game was released back in 1986.

The main plot of the game follows the Belmont family of vampire hunters and Count Dracula, the villain of the game.

The franchise has since expanded to other media and platforms, including comic books and even an animated series on Netflix.

Castlevania Game Boy Advance Games

Speculation is rife that the Game Boy Advance titles of the franchise are set to be part of "Castlevania Advance Collection." Titles released on the Game Boy Advance include:

"Castlevania: Circle of the Moon" - Released in 2001, the game follows the story of Nathan Graves, who is searching for his kidnapped mentor. The game has a non-linear style of gameplay where the player can explore the castle the story is set in.

"Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance" - The story is centered around Juste Belmont, the grandson of the lead character of the 1986 game, Simon Belmont. In the game, Juste must try to rescue a kidnapped friend. The game was released a year after "Circle of the Moon."

"Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" - Set in the year 2035, the story follows Soma Cruz as he tries to stop anyone who wishes to take Count Dracula's power. According to Kotaku, "Aria of Sorrow" is considered as "one of the best games" of the series' Metroidvania era.

Castlevania Games for New Platforms

While the main series has not seen a new game since 2009, "Castlevania" fans have still been able to enjoy the franchise through modern platforms.

The video game series has found its way to mobile gaming in recent years. "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" was launched last year for Android and iOS. In 2019, "Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls" was released for iOS devices.
