The 2022 iPhone will have a Touch ID, and it will be an in-screen fingerprint sensor, says popular Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in an investor note that was obtained recently. So yes, the plans for an in-screen Touch ID will be for the iPhone 14, or whatever the 2022 iPhone would be called, and would not be for later this year's iPhone 13.
This rumor is still something that remains unconfirmed, and despite being confirmed, it could still not direct to production from Apple.
2022 iPhone Touch ID: 14 to Feature In-Screen Tech
According to the obtained note by Mac Rumors from Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 would feature an in-screen fingerprint or Touch ID to add to the smartphone's security measures. However, note that this speculation is a year in the making and would not be for the next release of the Apple device for later this year, which would only feature the traditional Face ID.
The in-screen fingerprint sensor is not new to the tech industry but is something that Apple had not touched before, as it jumped from iPhone 8's Touch ID to iPhone X's Face ID exclusive device. Successors of the iPhone X (which had a number skip of the iPhone 9 to celebrate its 10th anniversary) include that of the iPhone 11 and 12, which only had the face sensor for security.
iPhone 14: Everything We Know Of
As said earlier, the 2022 iPhone 14 would have an in-screen Touch ID alongside its Face ID that goes custom with the latest of the Apple devices or flagship iPhones. Additionally, the speculations have revealed that it would only be for the 6.7-inch device, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, with the largest screen size.
It would cost a whopping $1,099 for its base price and would depend on the internal capacity of the smartphone, as it was known from Apple.
On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro with the 6.1-inch screen would only have the Face ID like its predecessors and would have a starting cost of $999 to compensate for its lack of features.
According to WFC Tech, TSMC is still the manufacturer of its Silicon chips for the iPhone 14 and has ordered a new batch of internal components that would be smaller than before, having only a 3nm ARM chip. This batch would differ from the current A14 Bionic Chip of the Cupertino company at 5nm.
iPhone 13: Last Release with iPhone Mini
What the iPhone 14 signifies is a new direction for Apple, with reports saying that it would also be the cheapest lineup the company would debut in the coming year.
However, before all of that, there would still be an iPhone 13, and it would feature the continuation of the current device lineup of the iPhone 12, which first brought 5G to Apple's smartphones. Moreover, it would be the last 4-iPhone lineup, as it would carry the last of the "Mini" series for the devices, effectively canceling the 5.4-inch phone with only two releases.
