Microsoft OneDrive users can now use the software to edit their photos thanks to a new update.
The company introduced new photo-related features for OneDrive, which elevates the software from simply being a cloud storage for photos. These features include the ability to crop and rotate pictures. Users can also adjust the color and lighting of their photos and even organize and view them via OneDrive for Android.
The new update is "the start of a number of new enhancements that OneDrive is bringing to photos over the next year," the company said in a statement posted on its website.
The company also reiterates their commitment to a "refreshed photo experience" all while maintaining user privacy.
It is important to note that photo editing is currently limited to JPEG and PNG formats. The features are also only available for OneDrive for Web and OneDrive for Android. Android Version 6.0 or higher and OneDrive App Version 6.3 onwards are required for the new features.
An update for iOS will be available sometime this year.

Microsoft OneDrive Photo-Related Features
Microsoft offers the following photo-related features in the latest OneDrive update:
Crop - Photos can now be cropped to free-form shapes or with built-in presets. These built-in preset ratios include square, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5, 5:4, 3:4, 4:3, 2:3, 3:2,1:2 and 2:1.
Rotate and Flip - Images can be rotated left and right by 90 degrees. They can likewise be flipped by 180 degrees. Incremental degree rotation has also been added so users can straighten or tilt photos as they wish.
Light and Color Adjustments - Users can adjust their photos' brightness, contrast, exposure, color saturation, highlights, and shadows. The before and after photos can also be viewed after editing.
Important Notes for the OneDrive Update
OneDrive users also have the option to save their edited photo as a new file or an overwrite of an old file. Should a user wish to access the original photo, Microsoft says that version history can be used to recover the picture.
The update makes OneDrive photos and videos viewable on TV thanks to the streaming device Chromecast. It also allows for a filtered viewing of photos on the software. Users can opt to view either just the photos in the Pictures folder or all the photos stored in OneDrive.
The new photo-related features are only available so far for personal OneDrive accounts. The features will be available for work and school OneDrive accounts sometime this summer.
Future Photo Organizing Update
Microsoft has another update expected within the next two months for those seeking to organize the photos in their OneDive.
According to The Verge, the upcoming update will include a setting that creates folders based on the upload source of the photos. Uploaded images will then be automatically saved in their corresponding folders. For example, screenshots will be saved in a folder automatically created for such images.
