Google has introduced the "Work Location Tool" which would provide employees with the approximate computation of their salary when they move out to other regions or states. Some may see an increase, while some may suffer a decrease in their salary due to local regions' rates, and would differ from setups of office work or remote.
Each region and state has its valuation for compensation and wage rates, with some not having a high value for the specific work they have there, and some giving more for those in the industry.
Google has recently made it clear that it would soon have a hybrid remote setup in the coming months, especially if the country has furthered on to completing the vaccination drive against COVID-19.
On the other hand, several big tech companies have also looked into a change in their lifestyle, including a balance of office work and a remote setup, which follows because of what the pandemic has brought the public. Companies like Apple and other big tech are leaning into a new setup, with Google being the first to express its plans for it.

Google's Work Location Tool
Work Location Tool is the new feature that Google will soon debut according to CNet, and it would bring an estimate of how much one's compensation would be in a certain place that they are living in. The remote setup means that a person can work almost anywhere, provided that they have the right tools for the job like a computer and an internet connection.
However, that does not mean that Google would not change the rates for the said location, particularly as it adheres more to the local rates of a state or region, depending on their place. This means that high-traffic, livelihood, or standard of living places would have a higher rate of compensation, while rural areas would have a lower one.
Users could cross-match the Work Location Tool's compensation computing system to Google's Careers website to know what their expected salary would be when living in different states. The application was said to have been rolled out earlier today, and it would provide different estimates and approximations based on one's location, and work setup.
Are Other Big Techs Also Doing This?
Facebook and Twitter are also on board for a remote or hybrid work setup in the coming years, particularly because the pandemic has shown them that it is possible to function, even without the face-to-face. However, in terms of wage change per region, it was not announced by these two social media companies.
On the other hand, Reddit will not change the rate of an employee despite living in far-flung areas, unlike Google that has a varying rate of compensation. The move for Google and Reddit may be different, but those moves are what the company thinks best for their employees, and well, it is still under their jurisdiction and decision.
