Facebook is scheduled to roll out a new type of group. However, this new feature is only available for Gaming creators. The streamers can take advantage of several new features in Fan Group.
One of the features can help creators organize topics into threads, and those can be moved into their chat channels. The chat channels are similar to channels in Slack or Discord.
Any badges a viewer earns during a stream will be available in the Fan Group to show others that they are an engaged member of the community.
Facebook Gaming Chat Feature
There is a new type of post that is called Looking for Players. The idea of the feature is to help the users find people to play games with from within a streamer's community, so it is looking for a group feature, according to Engadget.
Users can state how many people they are looking to team up with, and they can see a waitlist when all of the spots are full.
Facebook also stated that it had improved Fan Group discovery, with the idea of helping streamers build their communities and fans to stay connected.
When a streamer stops the broadcast, the viewers will see a suggestion to join their personal Fan Group. People who engage with the page of the creator will also be informed about the Fan Group, according to Tech Crunch.
This is another move from Facebook to make Gaming a more enticing option for streamers than the likes of YouTube or Twitch. Facebook has billions of users that streamers can connect to in order to build their communities.
Fan Groups should also help streamers and fans stay connected outside of livestreams. This means that they can keep the conversation on Facebook, instead of moving to a separate platform like Discord. Also, the company recently stated that it won't take a cut of the earnings of the creators until 2023.
Fan Groups are now available to creators that are already partnered with Facebook Gaming. Level Up creators will gain access in the next couple of weeks.
Facebook Gaming Monetization
Aside from the chat features, Facebook Gaming is also adding monetization tools for creators doing video-on-demand services.
According to VentureBeat, the gaming creators on Facebook can continue to build communities and earn revenue on the platform.
Whether the creator wants to do it as a full-time career, a side job, or just making content for fun, Facebook Gaming is creating monetization tools so that creators can thrive on the platform.
This means that Facebook Gaming is looking to go after the creators on YouTube. The platform is taking additional steps in order to support edited gaming videos, also called video-on-demand or VOD.
They start with monetization and test how people support their favorite creators by sending them Stars while watching VOD content.
With VOD, the creator can set their personal Stars goal for their videos in a dashboard. They can track it in real-time against the Stars received from viewers.
For VOD content eligible for Stars, a ticker will display messages containing Stars, and animations will play when people send these.
Fans can buy Stars, and this program is in pilot testing with a small group of creators, with hopes to roll out in different countries soon.
