iPadOS 15's latest upgrade comes with numerous perks, including multitasking capabilities.
The multitasking changes to iPadOS 15 made it so much easier for users to understand they could multitask, as revealed by Apple VP of worldwide product marketing Bob Borchers and VP of intelligent system experience Sebastien Marineau-Mes.
iPadOS 15 Multitasking Update
In the WWDC event interview, executives at Apple promoted the changes that was launched for the iPadOS 15, according to Apple Insider.
In one interview with Borchers and Marineau-Mes focusing on iPadOS 15, the executives cover the multitasking alterations and keyboard shortcuts, and there were other alterations added too.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Borchers agrees with the sentiment that there was a much-needed change in how Apple users interacted with multitasking features.
Borchers said that the way they think about the situation is that the step forward and multitasking make it easier to discover, easier to use even more powerful. He added that while multitasking features were used in the past, they want to take it more broadly because they think there is applicability in many users.
Marineau-Mes noted that one of the goals was to make the spatial model more explicit. He said that if a user got a split view, they can tuck the other side and concentrate on one view.
As part of the changes this time, affordances to give users the knowledge multitasking was an option were required. The key metric was consistency, with the same Slide Over appearance in all views.
Marineau-Mes said they strongly believe in building a mental model where users know where things are on their iPad. They also want to apply persistence to home screens and want users to have a very strong mental model for where things are in the home screen as well as all of the apps that they've configured.
The Apple executives said that they try to maintain a well-maintained mental model and also allow users to reorganize again in the switcher.
Another goal for iPadOS 15 was to make it easier to navigate things through a keyboard. Marinaeu-Mes added that users can do all of the new multitasking affordances and features through keyboard shortcuts.
Marinaeu-Mes continued that they have got a new keyboard shortcut menu bar where users can see all of the shortcuts that are available.
The update is great for discoverability, and users can search them as Apple made a conscious effort to rationalize the shortcuts across iPadOS and Mac.
Boucher and Marineau-Mes also discussed the general discoverability of features, Universal Control, and how the Quick Note feature permeates the system and is easily accessible from everywhere.
