Toshiba's Cambridge Research Laboratory announced that it was able to achieve its first quantum communication demo. The company also proudly confirmed that this advanced demonstration was able to exceed 600 km in length.
Because of this, some experts and other internet critics claimed that Toshiba's latest achievement could lead to a quantum internet. If you don't know what this technology is, quantum internet is a global network of quantum computers connected by long-distance quantum communication links.
On the other hand, various researchers also explained that it could allow the ultrafast solution of complex optimization problems in the cloud service. If this is true, the alleged quantum internet could be way faster than the current 5G and the upcoming 6G connectivity.

Toshiba's Duan Band Stabilization Technique
According to Phys Org's latest report, the giant tech developer used the so-called Dual Band Stabilization method in its latest quantum communication demonstration. This new technique involves using two optical reference signals at different wavelengths to minimize the phase fluctuations on long fibers.
Specifically, the first wavelength is focused on canceling the rapidly varying fluctuations. On the other hand, the second optical reference signal, which has the same wavelength as the optical qubits, is responsible for the fine adjustment of the phase.
Smarter Future also reported that Toshiba developed the new Dual Band Stabilization method so that it can solve the temperature fluctuations, which is the issue that can cause the fibers to contract and expand. This problem could lead to slower quantum communication activities.
Other Agencies Planning To Build Quantum Internet
Aside from Toshiba, several government agencies are also currently planning on creating new technologies that could lead to the alleged quantum internet. However, these agencies didn't disclose their identities.
Although this is the case, it was confirmed that the U.S., E.U, and Chinese government sectors are included. As of the moment, Toshiba is still testing its new Dual Band Stabilization method. As a result, the giant tech firm hasn't confirmed yet when it will specifically start working on the advanced quantum internet.
