Taito is bringing back a mini-console that debuted in 1996. Way back during the peak of arcade gaming, users could only play on the traditional arcade cabinet that is the home of the most classic games on the planet. Now, we are getting a new Egret II as part of the company's commemoration with the console replica.
What is Egret II Mini?
According to Forbes' report on Monday, June 7, the Egret II Mini is not a commonplace console for those who have not played it. If you are a fan of arcade games, you could have encountered this small arcade cabinet that has a built-in screen that is similar to traditional television and a set of controls.
For those who are familiar with the Astro City Mini and Neo Geo Mini, maybe you have already envisioned what it looks like. Apart from that, its original screen rotation setup would be maintained in the new model since that's the kind of nostalgia that fans want to see again.
In Japan, the usual display is on a vertical or horizontal set-up. In some games where a different screen appearance would be suited, you could instantly rotate it if you are playing "Image Fight," "R-Type," and other similar games.
Upon its launch in 2022, there are 40 playable games that you could fully experiment with. If you want to add another batch of games, an SD card is required. Taito assures that the gamers could not encounter any problems when switching various games in Egret II.
Furthermore, what's worth noting about the new mini console is you could purchase the additional gamepads that contain several input options and a trackball. Still, if you are squinting at your screen and looking for a bigger display, you could plug an HDMI on the port located at its back.
At the moment, the only thing that we know is that it will be launched in Japan on March 2, 2022, for its initial release. You could purchase it here at 18,678 Japanese Yen or nearly $171. Taito has not yet announced if it will make Egret II available in other countries as well.
What Game Titles Could You Play in Egret II Mini?
The report from Geek Culture said that the five-inch screen console would be coming with a 4:3 LCD. In the package, there is also an instruction panel, user manual, HDMI, and USB cable.
Besides the traditional gamepad, Taito also adds a bonus modern arcade stick so you could have an option on what controllers you would choose.
