Tesla Model S developments have been revealed by Elon Musk and it is launching this week. It is bringing new specs to the electric vehicle, saying that it is the "quickest production car" that can go 0 to 60 mph in under 2 secs. However, part of this development is the cancellation of the Tesla Model S Plaid+, with Musk saying it is no longer needed due to Plaid's performance.
People have been wondering about the Tesla Model S development, particularly because it was announced earlier this year, particularly last January, with people having no news about it in the past months. There have been snippets and teases, but it was not enough, especially for those who have already pre-ordered the vehicle, especially the Plaid Model S.
The Plaid is supposed to be the "mindblowing" and "ludicrous" version of the vehicle, a homage to the 1987 film called "Spaceballs," which first coined "going plaid" to be faster than the fictional light speed jump. While the car cannot jump into "lightspeed," it said that it would bring the ludicrous speed humans will experience here on Earth and the road with the EV.
Tesla Model S is Going 'Plaid Speed' This Week
It will be a massive week for Tesla, particularly as Elon Musk has announced via Twitter (@elonmusk), the upcoming release of one of the most awaited electric vehicle models of the company's fastest production car. The Tesla Model S Plaid will be the quickest thing next to the upcoming Tesla Roadster SpaceX Package, scheduled for 2022.
According to the Tesla CEO's series of tweets earlier today, June 6, the clean energy company is debuting the Model S with "Plaid Speed" this week, bringing the awaited version to the public. This would be the next largest development of the Model S since its January launch which brought the U-shaped "Yoke" steering wheel for its refresh.
The Plaid was initially teased last year, and it was expected to launch last Battery Day, with the car being unavailable at the time. Moreover, alongside this launch, Musk has yet again changed his Twitter display photo into the "Plaid" imagination of the lightspeed jump from "Spaceballs."
Plaid+ is Cancelled
Alongside this development is the cancellation of the Plaid+ version of the vehicle, which Musk said is no longer needed, as the original version of the Model S Plaid "is so good" to satisfy the need for speed.
Initially, the plans of the EV company is a back-to-back launch of Plaid and Plaid+, with the latter being the faster and more powerful vehicle, bringing also a higher range option. The Plaid+ is also known to be the most expensive version of the Model S, with its price tag reaching the $150,000 range for its release.
The Tesla Model S Plaid's acceleration can go 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds, which is said to be the quickest production car, 390 miles of range, 1,020 horsepower, and will be sold for $119,000.
