Entering the medical field is a natural calling. Some careers attract all types of personalities; however, medicine requires a particular kind of person who enjoys sharing their expertise as much as developing it. Such is the case with Adam Goodcoff---a doctor who followed his calling, and then some.
As an Emergency Medical Physician, Goodcoff has managed to take on many other roles over the years. But his draw to medicine was not by accident. The "bug" hit Goodcoff early, and he self-educated by tapping into as many medical arenas he could manage, all before actual medical school.
First, Goodcoff became a Certified First Responder and an Emergency Medical Technician. Then he added Certified American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Instructor to his resume. His incredible thirst for more and more knowledge about the human body and medicine naturally led to a desire to teach his craft.
However, for Goodcoff, teaching medicine to the next generation of professionals does not mean following traditional methods. Instead, he's using social media to make the medical community more accessible. He's tapped into something innovative and completely unique with his app, Med Life. "Med Life allows users to tune into a simulation of a patient monitor to work through medical cases. The app supports many medical interventions such as defibrillation, medication administration, intubation, and more," explains Goodcoff.
Goodcoff says his goal in creating Med Life is to inspire and educate healthcare providers around the world. Med Life is the first and only social media-based live and interactive medical simulation streaming free on YouTube and occasionally on TikTok.
"My social media career is unique in that I focus mainly on education for the masses and on getting the next generation excited about medicine," says Goodcoff. Goodcoff accomplishes this goal with edgy demonstrations on TikTok, authentic YouTube videos, live streams, and Instagram posts. As the only one of his kind, Goodcoff is setting the standard for others to follow---and running away with the market.
Mainly, Goodcoff's posts aim to excite and inspire the next generation of the medical community. He knows what it's like to have that desire to be a doctor from an early age. By posting videos and doing live streams, he provides a level of education aspiring doctors need in this digital age.
And Goodcoff doesn't just deliver information in his posts. Many of his tutorials are interactive. "I have become well known for my You Be the Doctor series, where the audience tests their skills by voting on what treatment should be given next," says Goodcoff.
And it seems Goodcoff is on to something, too. Not only has he cornered the market, but he's also amassed quite a following. With over 1.6 million followers a day, people can't get enough of the medical jargon and procedures Goodcoff provides. With such a whirlwind life, Goodcoff admits he needs some help keeping it all together. This job falls on his good friend, manager, and video editor, Josh Opitz.
Apparently, it's lonely at the top because Goodcoff is also proving he's willing to share the spotlight by becoming a medical social media educator. He's even developed a company called MedInfluencers, where he offers training and coursework to assist people interested in becoming medical influencers. "I cover not only the basics of photography and social media but also the elements of marketing and business behind becoming a successful influencer," says Goodcoff.
With verification on TikTok and 1.6 million followers in 2020, Dr. Adam Goodcoff is blazing his trail in the medical influencer space and making room for others. Goodcoff is a dedicated physician whose calling seems to be teaching medicine in new and innovative ways as much as it is practicing it.
