"God of War: Ragnarok" may not be releasing to the PlayStation 4 anymore, as Sony will make it exclusive for the PS5 once it releases, as the company's latest release will focus more on the latest gaming console. Sadly, there is no "forward compatibility," and it would not be possible to play PS5 games on a PS4 for now, only the other way around.
"Boy" and his father "Kratos," grew in popularity because of the exclusive PS4 release of "God of War" from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Santa Monica, which has been one of the most popular games of the generation. Moreover, it is one of the most popular releases in the "God of War" franchise, which has been a fan favorite since its initial release for the PS2.
The evolution of "God of War" has shown the travails of Kratos from the Greek Civilization, down to his journey to the Norse mythology in the Scandinavian region. While the shift of focus has changed from Greek gods to Norse ones, it has not been a reason for the game to flop, and with the success of the 2018 game, comes Ragnarok.
'God of War: Ragnarok' is a PS5 Exclusive
"God of War: Ragnarok" has been long-awaited by fans, especially as it continues the plot of Kratos in his quest to discover the secrets behind the Norse mythology's lore, especially as chaos looms over the gods of Asgard. Still, Kratos is of Zeus' descent and a god among the game's lore, he possesses supernatural abilities as he ventures into the realm of the Nordic religion.
The lore itself is a massive one, which fans hope to have a sequel, and was recently confirmed by Sony last January to be both a PS4 and PS5 cross-gen release. However, recent developments and leaks from Okami via Twitter (@Okami13_) suggest otherwise, even showing a screenshot from Sony's games presentation for the PS4, which did not show "God of War."
This leak is still treated as an unconfirmed development for "God of War" and its future in Sony's consoles, especially as it is known to be exclusive releases for the PlayStation only.
Sony's Game and Network Services Segment presentation has revealed the new logo for "God of War: Ragnarok," which is coming to release soon enough.
'God of War: Ragnarok' Release Date
To date, there are no confirmed dates or months for the release of the upcoming sequel of the 2018 PS4 game which was the self-titled one from the series.
"God of War: Ragnarok" was confirmed for 2021, but fans are getting skeptical of its release, especially as it is already nearing the end of the first half of the year, with no announcements from Sony.
The sequel and fifth game in the franchise has a lot to live up to, as it brings the latest development from the company in the "God of War" series, featuring "Ragnarok," otherwise known as "fate of the gods" which suggests Asgard's destruction and Odin's defeat.
