Apple TV 4K 2021 may be the rising star of the year for black boxes and television technology, but Nvidia Shield TV's Android device is not someone to back off a fight, especially if performance is to be considered. The Nvidia Shield TV was last updated in 2019 but features all the latest technological advances which could keep up with the latest trends of today.
Nvidia has mostly focused its products on computer hardware, mainly on the graphics card (GPUs), and other internals including that of the GeForce, TITAN, and the RTX series which is popular among gamers. On the other hand, the company has also focused on the "Shield" technology, which either has the Shield TV or Shield TV Pro.
On the other hand, an unexpected update from Apple has released the Apple TV 4K's 2nd-generation for 2021, bringing a new device and a new Siri remote under the Spring Loaded event last April 20. It certainly is different from the first-generation Apple TV 4K, and it brings the A12 Bionic chip from Apple's iPad lineup, as seen on the iPad Classic and Air.
Nvidia Shield TV
Nvidia Shield TV is considered as one of the top Android TV boxes in the world, going against products such as Amazon's Fire Cube, Xiaomi's Mi Box, and other competitors. The latest Shield TV was released in 2019, and it is the smallest iteration of the device, making it perfect for storing and setting up at one's watching area.
It has an internal memory of only 8 GB but has a dedicated Micro SD card slot to add more storage for one's library of media including images, recordings, or games to play. Nvidia features the Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision with the tech, along with 4K capabilities.
Yes, Nvidia's Shield TV wants people to use it as an avenue for games, including "Fortnite," "Dauntless," and more. Additionally, Nvidia is unique with its AI upscaling technology included, aiming to revolutionize the watching experience.
Apple TV 4K
The latest Apple TV 4K released this year is the second generation of the 4K streaming box. It has Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision compatibility and has a Siri remote for better AI integration. However, the remote is limited for TV use only, as it lacks a gyroscope to optimize the remote's gaming function.
It is said to soon bring a 120Hz rate for its display but is yet to come out for the next tvOS. The black box has either a 32 or 64 GB built-in and non-expandable storage capacity.
Nvidia Shield TV vs. Apple TV 4K
Nvidia's Shield TV has an edge over Apple TV 4K with the AI upscaling, which significantly helps in improving usage of the black boxes on one's viewing experience. However, Apple TV 4K wins with the smart solution it brings as it interconnects Apple devices better, as it comes from the same company.
The Nvidia Shield TV is available for $149.00 at different retail stores including that of Amazon.
The Apple TV 4K is available for $179.00 from the Apple Store.
