Google Fuschia OS will be replacing the Linux-based "Cast OS" on the 2018-released Nest Hub, the company told 9to5Google. However, the said update will not be noticed by the naked eye. Hence, the functionality of the said device will still be the same, and the changes will only be under the hood.

The new OS is reportedly made from scratch; it is not a Linux-based operating system. While Fucshia is based on Zircon, instead of on Linux, it could still run applications from the latter, and Android as well. It is the challenge that Google has to face.

As such, Fuchsia is expected to run, in laptops and martphones aside from smart home devices, .

Google Fuchsia OS: Its First-Ever Release

While some developers have run the new OS in a Pixelbook, it is the first official release in a Made by Google device that Fuchsia will have, 9to5Google said in the same report.

It confirms that the scratch-based system is finally ready to be used.

The update on the Nest Hub for it to run Fuchsia will be rolling out in the next few months, but there is no exact date yet. And, as mentioned, the overall experience of users will be unhampered. Hence, the first rollout, as it turns out, will be subtle -- as the transition will be a complex update.

Google Fuchsia OS: an Android and Chrome Replacement?

On February 20, a leak revealed that the new OS of Google will combine both the Android and Chrome OS in the future. It comes after the latter has surpassed Apple macOS as the second-largest PC operating system, at least globally. It would mean that Fucshia will soon be seen across both smartphones and laptops of Google as well.

Furthermore, Google has not officially announced replacing both Android and Chrome OS. However, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome/OS, hinted that phones and desktops will be needing Fucshia soon, 9to5 also reported.

Separately, Samsung is also helping Google develop Fuchsia, as per SamMobile. The South Korean company was seen to have contributed code to the new OS.

SamMobile also suggested that Samsung may plan to produce devices to run Fucshia, as it becomes active in developing it. With that, it could be expected that more devices will be carrying Fucshia in the long run.
