Google Docs Update Lets Users Put Images in Front of or Behind Texts

Google Docs update is finally here.

Google Docs is a great platform for getting things written up and edited on the go. It has even replaced the dedicated word processing software like Microsoft's Word as it has massive advantages over software that needs to be installed: it is accessible from pretty much everywhere. You can also have Android apps for easy editing while you are on the go.

However, there are also disadvantages. There is a handful of features that these web word processors usually lack.

Now, Google has corrected one of the biggest shortcomings of Google Docs.

Google Docs Update on Images

This particular update is mostly all about getting itself a little bit more comparable in terms of features with Microsoft Word. In Google Docs, you can now place an image in front of or behind a text, according to XDA Developers.

Additionally, while importing or exporting documents from Microsoft Word, that same formatting will be kept, and you will also be able to modify that positioning within Google Docs.

Google stated that they believe that this functionality will allow users to more easily personalize their documents and share them with confidence, regardless of the program that is used.

When you click directly on an image on Google Docs, you will notice the new option for positioning an image above or below text in the image choices sidebar and in the image toolbar.

This feature is currently rolling out to all Google Docs users, on both enterprise accounts and personal accounts, starting from May 24, although the official Google Workspace Updates blog mentions that it may take up to 14 days to reach all of the platform users.

So, why is the new Google Docs update important?

Proper image positioning has been present in Microsoft Word for years, it was present in Microsoft Word 97, first released in 1996, which is 25 years ago.

Google Docs is also a solution that is highly compatible with Microsoft Word, to the point that Google Docs users can import and export .docx files from Microsoft Word. Having the same functionality is very important for persevering and maximizing this compatibility.

How to Position Images in Google Docs

According to Google, this feature does not need any special admin approval, and it will be available to everyone including free and paid Google account users.

In order to place an image behind text on Google Docs, all you need to do is to click directly on the image then go to the image options sidebar, as noted by TechRadar. Then, locate the new option for positioning an image above or below the text.

While this option is available for everyone, you might not see it immediately in your Google Docs as it is being rolled out in a phased manner starting May 24.

In case you are not able to spot the additional option, it is just a matter of a few days before it starts appearing in your account.

Google is aware of the impact of this additional feature. The tech giant stated that they hope that this feature will help users better customize their documents and share them with ease.
