Nintendo has announced that "Super Mario Party" will receive a free update today, which will add online play with friends or with anyone with your lobby's password.
Super Mario Party update
The latest update of the video game, update 1.1.0 as posted on Nintendo's official Twitter account, will add online play to "Mario Party," "Partner Party," and "Free Play."
According to iMore, to play with others through the internet, the players must select which of the modes they would like to play, then select "Online Play." Players will have the option to select "Friend Match," which takes them to their Friends List and shows which friends can play the game online.

Players can utilize the "Invite Friend" feature, which allows their friends to join their game through the "Online Play Invites" page within the Friends List menu. But playing the game online won't let you access the Invite Friends feature.
Players can also select "Private Game", where a password can be generated and given to those who would like to play online. As for content creators like streamers, they could use Private Game to play online matches with their viewers.
For those playing together online, all characters and maps will be available to select, regardless of how far any of the players have privately progressed in their own copiers of the video game.
But only 70 of the 80 mini-games will be available to choose from if players access the game through the internet, as noted by Eurogamer.
What is Super Mario Party?
"Super Mario Party" is a party video game that was developed by NDcube and was published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch.
The game is the 11th installment in the "Mario Party" series, this game was described as a complete refresh of the video game franchise, bringing back and revitalizing gameplay elements from older titles while also introducing new ones to go along with them.
"Super Mario Party" was released worldwide on Oct. 5, 2018 and it sold more than 1.5 million copies.
As of this year, the game has already sold more than 13 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch.
For the first time in 10 years, "Super Mario Party" returned to the traditional turn-based "Mario Party" style of gameplay. It is a format that had remained absent from home console entries since "Mario Party 8."
So how is it played?
The standard game mode, "Mario Party," features up to 4 players taking turns navigating the game board. When it is the player's turn, a dice block is rolled to know how many spaces the player moves on the board, and items collected can be used to change how many spaces the player can move.
Each of the space has a unique function, like blue and red spaces, giving and taking 3 coins respectively, and good luck and bad luck spaces granting the player helpful or unhelpful consequences.
After each player takes their turn, everyone competes in a minigame which awards coins based on the placement. Minigames present different rules and playstyle, like 4-player free-for-alls, 2-on-2, or 1-on-3 matchups, or utilizing motion controls or HD Rumble.
All in all there are 80 minigames.
