Tesla Autopilot Crash New Data Reveals Someone was Allegedly Behind the Wheel

The Tesla autopilot crash that recently happened wherein a Tesla Model S crashed and even caught fire in Texas which resulted in two deaths now brings new alleged information to light. It was reportedly stated that the EV might have actually had someone sitting in the driver's seat, according to top Tesla executives.

Tesla Autopilot Crash

According to the story by The Verge, their reported comments during the earnings call Monday had contradicting statements against the local law enforcement during the immediate aftermath of the recent Tesla crash. This could now complicate the total efforts by the federal crash investigators who are now also examining the said incident.

Tesla's vice president of vehicle engineering, Lars Moravy, noted that the company representatives were actually able to inspect the crash. This would be along with local law enforcement as well as investigators coming from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA as well as the National Transportation Safety Board or NTSB.

VP Says 'Seatbelts Were Buckled'

Moravy also stated that the company was actually able to determine that the vehicle's steering wheel was reportedly "deformed." This then led them to conclude that there could be someone that was behind the wheel in the driver's seat at the reported time of the crash. It was stated that all seatbelts that were found post-crash were actually found to be unbuckled.

Tesla's very own advanced driver assist system, the Tesla autopilot, can reportedly only operate when the seatbelts are reportedly buckled. However, there were reports online saying that the Tesla autopilot can easily be tricked. If the government is actually upset with what Tesla discloses, it still is not saying so.

NHTSA and NTSB No Comment

A particular spokesperson for the official NHTSA had declined to give a comment while the NTSB did not give a response to the request for a comment. Moravy also stated that Tesla was unable to recover the said SD card coming from the vehicle. The local law enforcement, however, was working on getting that towards the company.

He then added that they continue to hold safety at much higher regard and also look towards improving their products in the future through the use of this kind of data as well as other information coming from the field. The crash reportedly took place on April 17 on Saturday in Spring, Texas.

No One Behind the Wheel?

Khou, over in Houston, now investigates the scene and was also "100% certain" that there was actually no one that was behind the driver's seat during the time of the crash. Just a few minutes before the crash, the wives of the victims were reportedly said to overhear them talking about the new Tesla autopilot feature of the vehicle which was a feature on the Tesla Model S, according to The New York Times.

The two victims were reportedly identified as Everette Talbot, age 69, and William Varner, age 59, a prominent local anesthesiologist.
