New record for AMD? The new AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs have been really hard to purchase these few months and only a fortunate few who either bought from scalpers or were able to beat them have access to this particularly powerful GPU. One particular GPU within the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series was able to beat the current overclocking GPU record!

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

According to the story by TechSpot, one really popular overclocker was able to get their hands on a Radeon RX 6900 XT and run it all the way up to a record 3,225 MHz! This is more than Nvidia's very own flagship Ampere cards are capable of doing.

For enthusiasts and other curious souls just wanting to know what is the limit of overclocking or maybe even those trying to compete for the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme Hall of Fame, there are a number of professionals that take overclocking dead seriously and test out how far GPUs are capable of going.

Overclock Limit

Sometimes, these limits go beyond the borders of practicality like proving that games like Doom Eternal are capable of running at a massive 1,000 frames per second! Some time last year, a certain overclocker was able to push a really rusty Intel Celeron D 347 CPU to go as high as 8.36 GHz.

Another one drove a relatively modern Intel Core i9-10900K to a whopping 7.7 GHz. Some time earlier this month, a certain Chinese overclocker was able to prove that the DDR4 RAM could actually hit a whopping 3,578 MHz! The RAM used was the DDR-7004.

New Overclocking Record

Just recently, new limits have been beaten as a quite popular overclocker as well as YouTuber Der8auer or Roman Hartung has recently set a brand new GPU core frequency record with the use of PowerColor's Liquid Devil Radeon RX 6900 XT Ultimate with the help of liquid nitrogen cooling! The main reason for this choice is that it actually featured a binned chip specifically the Navi 21 XTXH with a good 4GHz clock limit. The RX 6900 XT GPUs, on the other hand, have a limit of just 3 GHz.

While the highest overclocking rate that was obtained still remains a little below the theoretical 4 GHz limit, it still ends at an impressive 3,225 MHz world record! This is not the very first time that someone was able to push a GPU all the way past 3 GHz. The previous Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was also previously the undisputed champion reaching a whopping 3,024 MHz result, according to PC Gamer. However, this was only possible by actually modding the printed circuit board and also bypassing its general voltage locks. The new RTX 3090 by comparison was just able to climb up to 3,015 MHz. However, users can still install Crysis 3 on its own VRAM and still have loads of it left to run the game itself.
