Rockstar Games has been mum about GTA 6 rumors lately, but they sure were working behind the scenes as they just added free DLC to a couple of their classics.
Period detective thriller L.A. Noire and action-packed shoot-em-up Max Payne 3, two of Rockstar Games' best games of the 7th generation, just got a slew of new downloadable content on April 19th, reports Kotaku. Every single piece of DLC for the two games except the VR missions for L.A. Noire is now free, if you buy the games on Steam.
According to a report by ScreenRant, patch notes confirm that the DLCs are already integrated directly into both games. This means that players don't have to download them as separate files, which lessens the hassle by a lot.
This comes after a weird incident when all Rockstar Games titles, even the popular ones like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, temporarily disappeared from Steam then reappeared half an hour after, reports PCGamer. The incident, Rockstar claims, was purely accidental.
Cult Classics Worth Revisiting
L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 are among those titles considered "cult classics", especially by avid followers of Rockstar Games. A look at both games' histories and gameplay offerings makes it easy to see why.
First off, let's take a look at Noire. When this game released back in 2011, it was praised mostly for its very fresh take at an open-world, "true detective" adventure. Players got to roam around a faithful recreation of the city of Los Angeles in the 1940s, where they played the role of a beat cop-turned detective Cole Phelps. Gamers had the opportunity to play out their Sherlock Holmes fantasies solving a variety of crimes from simple misdemeanors to traffic violations, and even historical murders.
But among the biggest things about this game was its cutting-edge facial animation technology, which actually aided players in their detective work. Using an array of cameras pointed at an actor's face, Rockstar Games and Team Bondi was able to capture even the slightest eye twitches and smirks that can tell a player if an NPC they're interrogating is lying. It was amazing technology for its time; something Rockstar hasn't been able to use again in recent years.
Max Payne 3, on the other hand, released in 2012, was the soaring third instalment of the high-octane Max Payne franchise, which critics praised for its simple yet satisfying gameplay and strong story. IGN gave it a 9 out of 10, for one.
