Senior Art Critic and NYT Best Selling Author Backs Down on NFT Criticism

NFT has been the topic of interest for a lot of people ever since crypto and blockchain has become openly discussed. With a lot of curiosity circulating around NFT, a New York Senior Art Critic as well as a best selling author Jerry Saltz gives his two cents on the whole NFT movement.

NFT Goes Beyond Art: What is NFT?

NFT as of today is more popularly known for digital art being sold as NFTs but the whole spectrum goes beyond just art. Just recently, Twitter's Jack Dorsay has previously sold the very first tweet ever for a whopping $2.9 million! The news was reported by The Verge and it just goes to show how broad the whole realm of NFT actually is.

NFT or non-fungible-tokens are pieces of digital items on the blockchain that can be owned, sold, and traded. With really popular people like Grimes, the mother of the latest child of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, selling NFTs and making $6 million out of it, the attention around NFTs is growing.

Senior Art Critic Talks About NFT

Jerry Saltz is a Senior Art Critic with a 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Criticism. He is also known as the author of the NYT Best Seller known as "How To Be an Artist" who also won the ASME award twice. Saltz expressed on Twitter his thoughts about the whole NFT trend that is getting more and more popular by the day.

Saltz noted that one particular thing that really shocked him in the whole NFT world was that he had assumed that criticism would actually be welcome there just like in other types of creative spheres. He then said it was "tough but important" and that he was surprised at how anathema it actually was to a lot of people in the NFT realm.

Saltz then said that he respects its rules but still remains surprised. He noted that a number of NFT art actually comes from those non "art worlders" which were described as people who didn't go to school, had no degrees, and more. Saltz then said that he will no longer practice his art criticism within the NFT sector.

He also expressed that he is very interested in the whole possible metaphysics of NFT as a totally new "form." He also clarified that he is not here to disturb what he described as the "growing molecular structure" and that he will be quietly watching whatever happens.

Saltz then stated that he will respect the NFT community wishes of not wanting any type of criticism or just not wanting criticism especially from him. Saltz acknowledged it and said that he had understood and accepted that fact. He then expressed his sadness and that there should still be someone giving criticism. He then noted that he will continue to watch the whole NFT realm with interest and admiration and might even "pipe-up" as well.
