For those that have enjoyed shopping through the use of the Google Shopping app on Android or iOS, it might be the time to switch over to the Google Shopping app web version. Google has announced that it will be shutting down its very own Shopping app in just a few weeks.

Google Plans to Axe Shopping App

The initial hints regarding Google's plan to axe the app were reportedly spotted by XDA Developers on Thursday through the code seen in the latest version of the popular Google Shopping app. The app is popular for allowing users to shop from thousands of different stores and even buy things using their own Google accounts.

The news was then confirmed by 9to5Google which reportedly stated that the apps are going to go dark but can still be used up to June 2021. This, however, does not really mean that Google Shopping is permanently going away. The web version as well as the Shopping tab seen in Google Search will still be useful.

Killed by Google

According to the story by Gizmodo, due to the web version being almost exactly identical as the app version, users won't really need to miss the app version. This is not the first time that Google has killed one of its apps as the website Killed by Google shows 227 different apps, services, and even hardware that the massive tech company has decided to pull the plug on.

Although the reason for Google shutting down the Shopping app is still unknown as of the moment, this doesn't technically mean that Google will be discontinuing its shopping feature so users won't have to be too alarmed. The web version is still available and is pretty much the same as the app version. Except, of course, when it comes to the convenience that the app provides.

App Store/Google Play

Apps have been the mode of usage for most shopping platforms and even if there is a web version available, the convenience of an app has made it a more practical choice for those that want to shop online. The advancement of technology has also contributed to the use of apps this 2021. With programming languages becoming easier to use, developing apps has become more accessible for companies.

There are thousands of apps available today and although the App Store or Google Play might only show a limited amount of apps, it is also important to note that there are apps that actually aren't featured on Google Play or App Store. There are other apps by companies that can be downloaded directly on their site.

These include certain apps like emulators that have to be downloaded and installed manually on the user's device. It is important, however, to make sure that the apps downloaded are safe. Having an antivirus helps since it notifies the user if the file they are downloading contains potential malware.
