The release of the "Resident Evil Village," the eighth major installment of the survival horror franchise from Capcom, draws near, and with it is the latest teaser revealing the game's map showing the village's wide array of locations for players to discover.
The third and latest trailer of "Resident Evil Village" also raises the question as to who is the mysterious villainous character known only as Mother Miranda.
The game follows the story of Ethan Winters, a civilian who is also the main protagonist of the previous installment "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and his wife Mia as they face another tragedy as they try to build their new life.
"Resident Evil Village" is set to be released on May 7, according to Capcom's official page.
'Resident Evil Village' Map Art Revealed
On Friday, Apr. 9, an exclusive report from IGN reveals the game's map, with four locations highlighted by emblems.
One of the emblems marks the Castle Dimitrescu, which was also featured on the PS5 exclusive demo.
The map also highlights other landmarks, including the windmills, the factory, and reservoir housing an image of a giant monster.
"When you hear the word 'village', you might imagine quaint houses lined up along a street, but that's not really enough to make a videogame out of," said "Resident Evil Village" director Morimasa Sato.
Sato, who also worked on the previous installment "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard," also explained that it is important to deliver new surprises to the players, especially in horror games.
While the map shows the game's premise to be covered by snow, Sato said that it is not part of the development team's original plan.
"We went to Europe for research during spring one year, but due to an unseasonable cold snap, the scenery was covered in snow," he shared, adding that it served as an inspiration for them to add snowscapes to the game.
'Resident Evil Village': The Mystifying Mother Miranda
Trailers of the "Resident Evil Village" have introduced players to one of the game's main villains, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu.
However, the towering vampire-like antagonist may not be the worst of them all.
According to ScreenRant's report on Saturday, Apr. 10, the latest trailer shows Lady Dimitrescu talking over the phone to a mysterious figure called Mother Miranda.
In the trailer, Dimitrescu told Mother Miranda that Winters has "escaped that fool Heisenberg," and that the latter will pay.
What makes the trailer mysterious is when Miranda reminded Dimitrescu that Winters capturing is vital to the completion of the "the ceremony."
Mother Miranda's introduction raises the question of whether she is central to the story, as the trailer suggests her hold on Lady Dimitrescu is not absolute.
Her influence over the lady of the castle also raises doubts, as Dimitrescu threw a violent tantrum after the call ended, expressing her lack of concern for the ceremony and her thirst for vengeance.
