Yahoo Answers is now saying goodbye for good. The popular Q&A platform is scheduled to shut down this May 4. Aside from its shut down, Yahoo Answers users will no longer be able to either post questions or answers this April 20.

This April 20, the website will then be in read-only mode, according to the Yahoo FAQ page. There will also be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services so users don't need to be too worried.

Yahoo Answers originally launched back in June 2005. The site was one of the early providers of early golden internet comedy and an early source of memes for some of the poorly asked questions or intentionally wrong answers. As of the moment, Yahoo Answers is no longer the innocent, fun, and basically the Yahoo Answers funny place it once was.

Yahoo Answers, Something Went Wrong?

An article by Mashable notes that the front page of Yahoo Answers is now riddled with different conspiracies around most of the controversial topics. For those that are wondering is Yahoo Answers a reliable source, the answer is that it is not technically too reliable since participants can easily give prank answers. Before the site is going to shut down for good, users can still download all of their data through this link.

Does Yahoo Answers Still Exist?

As of the moment, the platform is giving its users time to download their data before the website and platform shuts down for good. Users can go to the "Privacy Dashboard and Controls" page, click "Download My Data" that can be found under the "Download and view your Yahoo data."

Users also will need to provide an email address to which the data can be sent. Yahoo also notes that it could take up to 30 days for users to get their data. The Verge even reports that Yahoo Answers sent another note to active members to those within the Yahoo Answers community explaining the whole situation.

Yahoo Answers Message

The message noted that Yahoo Answers first launched sixteen years ago to help the sharing of information. The message then expresses how proud they are and that they are shutting down Yahoo Answers for good this May 4, 2021.

Although Yahoo Answers is still a huge part of Yahoo's services and products, it has somehow lost popularity over the years as the needs of its members have changed. Towards the end, Yahoo has decided to shift their resources away from the once popular Yahoo Answers.

For those that aren't aware, Verizon previously purchased Yahoo for a whopping $5 billion back in 2017. Despite being one of the most popular search engines during the earlier years of the internet, Google has risen to the top and Yahoo is now having a hard time competing.
