On Sunday, April 4, Japanese supply chain blog Macotakara shared images showing a mockup of what it claims to be an iPhone 13 Pro. This mockup reveals the rumored redesigned notch as well as changes to the front-facing camera. The phone has been redesigned, but minor changes have been made.
iPhone 13 Pro Mockup
According to 9to5Mac, Apple created this iPhone 13 Pro mockup based on leaked schematics from supply chain sources. This type of information is generally shared among accessory manufacturers before the new iPhone model's official announcement.
The report says that the iPhone 13 Pro's notch will measure at 5.35 mm in height, while the iPhone 12 Pro's notch was 5.3 mm in size. The iPhone 13 Pro notch is 26.8mm wide, compared to 34.83mm for the iPhone 12. IT indicates that the iPhone 13 Pro's notch will be smaller in width but slightly taller.
This change is probably due to Apple moving the earpiece speaker to the top bezel on the iPhone 13, thus positioning everything a bit lower.
MacRumors reports that rumors about a smaller notch have been circulating since the iPhone X launch, which introduced the TrueDepth system and the notch.
The prototype obtained by Macotakara indicates that Apple is considering relocating the front-facing camera from the right to the left side of the iPhone's notch. It is unclear why this change occurred, but it could be due to the notch sensors' configuration.
There isn't too much else to take away from this dummy unit beside the smaller notch and the slightly relocated front-facing camera. Under the hood, the iPhone 13 is expected to have a similar design than the iPhone 12 in addition to some display improvements and possibly Touch ID.
Rumored Specs of the iPhone 13 Pro
Cnet has posted some information regarding possible specifications for the iPhone 13. Three other variants will join the iPhone 13: the iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The latest rumors call for a 120Hz display always-on, a smaller notch, a bigger battery, and possibly even a foldable iPhone version.
Like the Apple Watch and most Android phones, Apple may have its version of always-on display on the upcoming iPhone 13. If true, the next iPhone will always display the time, battery level, and incoming notifications without waking up the whole screen.
The beloved Touch ID button was expected to be used as a sensor under-display in the next year's flagship, which was to be the iPhone 12. That did not occur, but Cnet reported that this was an option that could "slip to the 2021 iPhone refresh."
So far, there is no official or unofficial news on when Apple's next iPhone is expected to be released. Usually, you can predict when Apple's iPhone events will occur and extrapolate a release date based on that.
In 2020, it was a completely different story -- it was the company's first September event without an iPhone due to production delays caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
This year, however, Apple's supply chain could continue business as usual. If that is the case, you can expect to see the iPhone 13 released sometime in September.
