Sony announced the upcoming Xperia product launch event that will be live-streamed on their YouTube channel on Apr. 14 at 9:30 CEST.
While the event did not give any hints about which phones will be launched, several leaks claim that the company will unveil the Xperia 1 III, Xperia 10 III, and the Xperia 5 III at the event.
Another phone rumored to launch at the event is the new Xperia Compact, which fans call as the Android rival of the iPhone 12 Mini.
Xperia 1 III Rumored Specs: Is This Sony's New Flagship Phone?
On Thursday, Apr. 1, TechRadar reported that Weibo leaker uncovered the specs of the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III, and it has the quality of a flagship phone.
According to the leaker, known to Weibo as ZACKBUKS, the Sony Xperia 1 III will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, present in all the flagship phones released in 2021.
Sony Xperia 1 III will also feature 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, 6.5-inch 4K OLED 120Hz display bearing a 21:9 aspect ratio-the display format that has become a signature feature on the Xperia series.
The report added that the Sony Xperia 1 III will have a 5,000mAh battery and will be fast charging at 65W.
Meanwhile, OnLeaks teased an unofficial render of the Sony Xperia 1 III on Jan. 28, suggesting that the rumored flagship phone will be fitted with a periscope lens.
The rumor was apparently confirmed when the Weibo leaker said that the periscope lens would be made in-house by Sony's Cyber-shot division.
The Sony Xperia 1 III will also be fitted with 64MP wide-angle camera and accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor.
Xperia Compact-Could The Return of the Compact Rival the iPhone Mini?
According to GSMArena's report on Apr. 1, there had been talks about the Xperia Compact series's return, which gained popularity back in 2018.
The rumored Xperia Compact is said to feature a 5.5-inch screen, which is just a bit bigger than the iPhone 12 mini.
It is also said to feature a Snapdragon 700-series chipset, an 8-megapixel selfie camera in a teardrop notch, and a dual-camera setup with a 13-megapixel main camera on its rear.
If confirmed, the 2021 Xperia Compact would be the first phone from Sony to bear the "Compact" name since the Xperia XZ2 Compact back in 2018.
The unofficial render leaked shows that the Xperia Compact's small body will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button like any other Sony smartphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 21:9 aspect ratio.
However, Sony fans might feel disappointed to learn that the Xperia Compact is rumored to launch only in Japan and might go under a different name.
Rumors claim that the Xperia Compact may actually be a follow-up to the Sony Xperia Ace launched in 2019.
