Tesla TikTok Update 2021.4.12.6: April Fool's Joke Gets People Excited for In-Car Recording and Streaming

Tesla announcing an update at the start of April with its CEO being known as one of the "King of Memes" of this era? Sounds suspicious and indeed it was, as the supposed and in-line software update for the electric vehicle's system initially claimed that it would be adding TikTok for an in-car streaming and recording function, was all a prank.

Happy April Fool's Day indeed, as the popular electric vehicle manufacturer and clean energy company has got the public's hopes and dreams up for one of the most ambitious collaborations in technology. Sadly, this feature for the software update is not coming, and there is no news or information as to whether it would come true in the future.

Do not get it wrong, Tesla Update 2021.4.12.6 is a legitimate software patch for the company's electric vehicles but the only joke or prank there was the TikTok feature that should have been coming. The software update was supposed to release by Thursday, Apr. 1, and it was a surprising one but also predictable to be part of the joke.

According to Car Advice Australia on Thursday, April 1, the clean energy company has announced that it would be rolling out the special collaboration between Tesla and TikTok globally, which was a rare occurrence in its history. Most of the time, the software update would be special in the different regions where Tesla is present, while some have delayed releases.

Supposedly, the Tesla TikTok collab would install software with the vehicle's cabin camera to record short videos and upload them using the electric vehicle's systems and infotainment screen. This update was named the "Ego Mode" where the inward-facing camera would be able to record TikTok videos that can be streamed via the EV as well.

Additionally, this update was too good to be true, as it would also utilize the vehicle's stereo system to function as the background music that drivers or passengers can sing or dance to, all licensed from its owners via TikTok. The update has a list of features that would potentially be an upgrade for Tesla and TikTok users, but it remains a prank.

According to Not A Tesla App, the only confirmed and worldwide update for Tesla electric vehicles is the minor improvements on the cold weather improvements that were initially promised by the company for its users. Additionally, the EV company was rumored to also roll out Additional Language Support for the cars in its different regions.

Notably, Tesla already has TikTok or Douyin (Chinese version) within its infotainment system but is only available in China, and the EV releases there. The app within its infotainment system can only stream and view videos, but cannot record and edit like the initial joke's offer for users. Since TikTok became available for Tesla China, fans and users were hoping for its release worldwide.
