Twitter is now bringing animated stickers for Twitter Fleets to all regions after testing out the feature with users in Japan. This will provide a new option to enhance the posts of the users within Twitter's stories-like tool.
Twitter Fleets stickers
Twitter users will now be able to add animated Twemojis and GIFs to their Fleets, giving an additional visual element to the option, according to Twitter Options.
Users will also be able to access the new Fleets stickers by tapping on the smiley face icon within the Twitter Fleets composer, which also includes a search bar to help the users find the right sticker for their image or their video update.
Twitter began testing the feature with Japanese users in February, and the addition is not a massive surprise given the breadth of enhancement tools that are available in other Stories options in other platforms.
At this stage, a wide range of features is what Twitter Fleets is lacking.
Users found it a bit strange that Twitter chose to launch Twitter Fleets without any visual enhancement tools, given that Stories on Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook all have features that are cutting-edge, complete with AR filters, which have helped boost their usage.
Even LinkedIn Stories has stickers, so Twitter users began questioning the purpose of Twitter Fleets.
The feature started with a few options that many found odd, but these new, animated visuals are the first addition on this front, and will most likely be the start for more tools released in Twitter Fleets in the coming months.
Twitter increased the expectations around its potential Twitter Fleets tools in 2020, when it got Chroma Labs, the developer of Chroma Stories, which provided stylistic frames and filter options for Stories content on other social media platforms.
According to 9to5Mac, Twitter has not transferred those additions to Twitter Fleets yet, but again, given the availability of other Stories tools, it seems inevitable that its toolset will expand in the future.
So, what will expand Fleets usage?
It is hard to predict. Currently, it does not seem like Twitter Fleets is a major consideration for most Twitter users as it is not used as much, but the top of app placement is a good opportunity for added exposure, which has proven to be a good lure for some Twitter users.
The Fleets stickers are available on iOS and Android.
Twitter Fleets' launch
Twitter's Fleets feature struggled under the load when it was launched in 2020. Twitter Fleets appear at the top of the app, allowing users to post ephemeral content that disappears in 24 hours as well as view stories that are posted by others.
However, the user demand and the curiosity about the newest feature had an impact on the tool's performance, as per TechCrunch.
Luckily, Twitter was able to fix the issue and now users all over the world can post as much as they want, and this time with the latest tool, the animated stickers.
