Apple Maps to Provide COVID-19 Vaccine Hotspots, Airport Travel Guidances, and More!

On Tuesday, March 30, during the pandemic period, Apple Maps will now show you travel information to avoid unpleasant surprises and make traveling more convenient. This information will make you aware of exactly what to expect before you depart your destination. This is how they have implemented it.

According to Engadget, Apple Maps will summarize any coronavirus-related information it has available, including need to use masks, quarantine policies, and any tests required.

This information can also be found on the airport's website, where further information can be found regarding your destination and any additional safety precautions you may want to take before your departure.

The new information is being made available in cooperation with the Airports Council International and provides details of COVID-19 safety guidelines in place at more than 300 airports worldwide, a report from TechCrunch says.

You will not see these details in every airport's place card. Nonetheless, they can be accessed through the app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The information provided includes requirements concerning COVID-19 testing, mask usage, screening procedures, and quarantine measures.

Generally, it aims to make the process of traveling while a worldwide pandemic continues easier, as vaccinations and other countermeasures are poised to prompt a global travel recovery.

According to TheVerge, Apple Maps has been updated to include more useful information like testing sites and vaccine providers in the past year. To find out if your airport has information, you may consult the Apple Maps site or use the ACI's Check & Fly tool.

As reported, US residents can also use Apple Maps to find nearby COVID-19 vaccination sites. To find the locations, tapping the search bar, then the COVID-19 Vaccines icon, among the "Find Nearby" options.

If it helps, that is the same location where you can find nearby restaurants and gas stations. Something else you can do is ask Siri, for example, "Where can I get a COVID vaccination?"

As with Facebook's vaccine-finding tool, Apple's listings are borrowed from the Boston Children's Hospital VaccineFinder database and include:

  • An address.
  • Phone number and hours of operation.
  • A link to the organization's website.

Apple says there are 20,000 listings already available, with more expected in the next few weeks. Additionally, healthcare providers, labs, and businesses can upload information on COVID-19 testing and vaccination locations to the Apple Business Register.

The company states that once approved; Maps users may also be exposed to some of that information.

If you reside in the US, you already have access to Google and Facebook to find similar information, but as is usually the case when it comes to these matters, you could always use more options.
