On Monday, Mar. 29, new information was released regarding the new remote for the Apple TV. There are also clues that a new Apple TV will be arriving soon. What are these new features?
Upcoming Apple Tv
On Thursday, March 25, Apple released tvOS 14.5 to developers, bringing some interesting changes to their TV streaming box, as reported by Macworld.
The latest tvOS 14.5 beta confirmed that the users will no longer have the current Siri Remote. Instead, it will be replaced by a redesigned hardware input device called the Apple TV Remote.
Furthermore, The company has dropped the term "Home Button" and changed it to "TV Button."
Apple may be just cleaning up its language to make it more appropriate to the situation since Siri may not be available in some countries.
"Type to Siri" and "Other Wireless Speakers" support, as well as an overhaul of Podcasts' section, are features that will be included in the new TV box Apple plans to release this 2021.
On the other hand, Apple TV will also support the latest PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S controllers, thanks to the latest tvOS 14.5. Its new beta update will also change the refresh rates from 30Hz and 60Hz to 29.97Hz and 59.94Hz, providing more specific data.
Several Apple products, including the new iPad Pro, AirPods, and AirTags, are rumored to be released in April.
The new Apple Tv Remote
Details about the Apple TV remote are still a mystery. However, 9to5Mac's sources confirmed that this model is currently being developed under the codename "B519," which is quite different from the current Siri Remote code - internally identified as "B439."
When the Apple TV 4K was released, the Siri Remote had a distinct white ring outside of the Menu button, identifying it as a new model. However, given that Siri Remote's internal model number is way above the current version, users should expect more significant changes.
Siri Remote has always been a controversial accessory among Apple TV users. Although some people prefer it to physical navigation buttons, many do not like that its glass surface is extremely fragile.
The company might make an improved Remote with the upcoming release of a new TV model.
The name "Siri Remote" from the tvOS 14.5 betas is now "Apple TV Remote," which was already used in some regions. Apple will now make the new hardware input device now standard for all users, implying that the accessory will soon change.
Aside from this, the company is testing a new Apple TV with a faster chip and a Remote that will work with the Find My Phone program, according to 9to5Mac; they also claimed the new TV box with the updated Remote would arrive this year 2021.
The code of tvOS 13 also revealed that the next-generation Apple TV would feature a more powerful processor based on the arm64e architecture, the A12 chip, or higher.
