Ever since its launch, "Genshin Impact" has reportedly been gaining quite the popularity ever since last year. The game is set to be receiving one of the biggest updates yet, the "Genshin Impact" 1.4 update on March 17. This update will be adding new weapons, items, the character Rosaria, and a lot more. However, it seems like there are also a few players that although thrilled by the update, are experiencing something unfortunate in Genshin Impact.

'Genshin Impact' hacked accounts

Players are already very excited for the upcoming update and even the updates beyond this but players are still bothered by a huge issue as of late. Over the past days, there are a number of players that have actually been subject to a large scale hacking attack and have either lost access to their "Genshin Impact" accounts or have had their accounts destroyed completely.

This has made players really nervous as to losing all of the hard-earned in-game progress to hackers and not being able to get anything back. Players are now even skeptical about joining miHoYo's official events due to the anxiety that the links could actually be a phishing link and a potential hack on players.

Two-factor authentication

The community now asks miHoYo for a two-factor authentication to increase the changes of security but there is still no update coming from miHoYo about it as of the moment. Now, miHoYo has even released a statement regarding the ongoing hackathon that has crippled a number of good players even making the others disappear.

A number of people actually believe that there could have been some sort of data leak coming from miHoYo's end. However, this does not really seem like the case as said in their statement. The statement was then translated by Reddit user u/uijbg.

MiHoYo statement

The statement from miHoYo thanked the people for contacting them and as of the moment, the developers are now discussing how they would increase the security system. From the given information they have as of the moment, they already have quite a number of layers of security and also see no sign of it coming from a leak.

It was noted that a number of players that got hacked were most likely because of their information being given to fake websites. They noted that they hope that their players won't fall victim to these fake websites. It was also noted that they will be increasing the account security as well.

According to an article by DualShockers, the specifics of the "increased security" has not yet been revealed however it is now speculated that 2FA would actually be the most logical option in this situation. This is considering the actual rate at which accounts left and right are being hacked. With the "Genshin Impact" 1.4 update rolling out soon and the "Genshin Impact" 1.5 update being tested, the excitement within the game is still pretty much up there. The only thing bothering players, however, is the security.
