Just six months after a crushing blow from the United States to Huawei Technologies Co.'s booming smartphone business, the company is now looking towards some less glamorous alternatives in order to offset the company's largest revenue contributor.
It was recently reported that Huawei had decided to go into the pig or hog farming business in China and now, it seems like Huawei is going a step further.
Huawei fish farms and mining
According to the story by Bloomberg, among the newest customers of Huawei are now fish farms located in eastern China that are reportedly twice the size of New York's very own Central Park.
The farm reportedly uses tens of thousands of solar panels that are outfitted along with Huawei's inverters in order to shield the fish from being exposed to excessive sunlight while still generating power.
Located about 370 miles west of the popular coal-rich Shanxi province, cameras deep beneath the earth, as well as wireless sensors, are used to monitor the oxygen levels and even potential machine malfunctions in the deep mine pit that are all supplied by Huawei.
Once one of the largest smartphone makers in the world, the Chinese corporation has now seen quite a long series of US sanctions that are almost completely obliterating its lucrative consumer business.
Ren Zhengfei Huawei founder
With the new administration still putting pressure on Huawei, Ren Zhengfei, the billionaire founder, has now decided that the company will expand its roster of enterprise clients in manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, and some other industries.
Huawei is now also seen as the world's leading supplier of inverters and is now also banking on being able to grow those sales alongside its very own cloud services as well as data analytics solutions to help the massive business with 190,000 employees survive.
Ren also noted that the new initiatives might even offset the company's massive drop in its popular handset business in more or less a year after the debacle with the US government.
This statement, however, was given despite the company declining to give specifics. Its whole consumer unit generated a whopping revenue of $39 billion within the first six months last 2020. That huge jump was reportedly more than half of what the company was worth.

Huawei hog farming
It had also reportedly managed to attain "marginal growth" in its supposed sales and profit last year.
This was reportedly thanks to the new record 5G base station orders as well as the solid smartphone sales during 2020's first half.
An article by the BBC details the company's decision to now delve into pig farming to mitigate the losses it had sustained due to the complications the company has gained with the US. The company's approach to hog framing is said to make use of modern technology.
