Apple has launched AirPods Max's new update for its firmware version earlier this week. It was only speculation at first that the update would happen, as MacRumors noted.
In the meantime, there is no official note about the firmware update of the wireless headphone yet, and it seems that the issue of battery-life draining when the AirPods are placed in the Smart Case is finally solved.
Overview of the Problem with the AirPods Max
AirPods Max's Smart Case works like a silicon case, but it features an extra bump where the battery pack is kept. If the AirPods Max is inside it, its battery life will be preserved, especially when it is not in use.
The concept of the Smart Case can be further simplified through this. After 18 hours, when you put the wireless headphone into it, the "ultra-low power mode" will now be activated from its usual "low power mode."
The said Apple gadget was launched late last year, but its users' complaints involving the fast draining of AirPods Max's battery spread this 2021. It was reported that even though the headphones are housed in the Smart Case, the battery life of the gadget immediately declined.
In January, the problem with the battery drain was all over the forums of Apple Support. It even reached Reddit discussions and even other tech threads.
According to some owners, their AirPod Max's battery was fully charged at the time. When they checked the next morning, battery life was already 1% or 0%, despite being 100% before that.
To address the issue, Apple came up with a firmware update this week for the looming battery-life draining of AirPods Max.
To show the difference before and after the firmware version 3C39 update, Gui Rambo of 9To5Mac conducted a short test to see if AirPods Max's battery life is now fixed.
The experiment displayed the two-hour interval of the battery drain for every 30 minutes. Based on the illustration posted on the page, the new firmware update proved that only a little battery was consumed when the AirPods Max was put in the Smart Case.
This only means that the battery loss issue has now received the company's remedy through the firmware update.
In addition, the experiment revealed that the duration of how long it will take for the Airpods Max to shift into the "ultra-low power mode" has changed when it is inside its Smart Case.
Before, it would take 18 hours until AirPods Max changed to the ultra-saving mode. Now, it will now enter the said mode around 30 minutes after the firmware version 3C39 update.
Furthermore, the update is also compatible with iOS 14.5. That will mean that even though you connect your AirPods Max to an iOS. 14.5 device, it will not crash anymore.
