Sonos has just announced its latest speaker called the Sonos Roam and it is a portable battery-powered speaker that is priced at $169. The preorders will reportedly start today and be going on until April 20.
Sonos Roam 'bring it anywhere'
The Sonos Roam is displayed on the official Sonos website for those that want to check it out. The Sonos Move was reportedly the company's initial try at a new portable product. However, it was still quite large and hefty for its users to actually travel with.
The new Sonos Roam, on the other hand, is reportedly a true "bring it anywhere" type of speaker. It is also the smallest speaker that the company has reportedly ever made through the measurements that were given last week. The device will be 6.61x2.44x2.36 inches and weighs just 0.95 pounds.
Sonos tried out 'hundreds' of models
Sonos told The Verge that it had considered "hundreds" of different prototypes and sizes even before landing on this particular design. With the current dimensions, the next question is whether or not the Sonos Roam will be able to live up to the main reputation that Sonos has initially established for being able to deliver good sound quality.
The writer in the article by The Verge noted that they haven't heard anything first hand so it would be hard to compare the device with the JBL Charge, UE Boom, or maybe even one of Bose's many portable speakers. Sonos also reportedly packed the new Roam with a particular "two Class-H amplifiers."
Sonos Roam Trueplay
Sonos is now also bringing automatic Trueplay to the Sonos Roam, this will mean that it would tune audio output in order to get the best results based on what room or environment the speakers will be in. It was also noted that two Sonos Roams can actually be set up as a sort of studio and paired along with WiFi. However, the option is still unavailable for those playing music over a simple Bluetooth connection.
Unlike the previous Sonos Move, which makes the users choose between either Bluetooth or WiFi modes, the new Sonos Roam actually takes advantage of both connections all at once. The device will be able to join the user's WiFi network automatically while it also repairs to the phone once the user would take the phone away from the house.

Sonos compatability to Bluetooth
Users can reportedly play something on their phone with Bluetooth on the Roam then choose to extend it across the whole multiroom new Sonos system. Apple's new AirPlay 2 is also said to be supported which means that users can play the audio from a number of services through the given Sonos mobile app.
The story reported by The Verge covers how the Sonos differs from some other speakers while also retaining the best parts of other speakers in general. The new Sonos Roam aims not only to be portable but to also provide an efficient sound system at home.
