US Air Force's Failed F-35 Program Needs Possible Solution to Succeed; NGAD, 6th-Gen Aircraft, Suggested Solution?

The U.S. Air Force finally admits that its F-35 fighter jet is a failed program. The military agency announced its confirmation in its new study that focuses on future aircraft's tactical aviation requirements. The new research called Tac Air is led by Air Force Staff General Charles Q. Brown.

He confirmed that the F-35 program is a failure since it was not able to achieve its main goal. On the other hand, Brown said that the United States Air Force no longer needs the Next Generation Air Dominance or NGAD fighter., which is a 6th-gen fighter plane.

However, he also explained that the military agency still needs a new 5th-generation minus or 4.5th-generation fighter aircraft. Because of the current issue, Brown suggested that the possible solution for the F-35 fighter jet is to avoid its operation.

"I want to moderate how much we're using those aircraft," said the general via Extreme Tech's latest report.

"You don't drive your Ferrari to work every day, you only drive it on Sundays. This is our high end, we want to make sure we don't use it all for the low-end fight... We don't want to burn up capability now and wish we had it later," he added.

What is F-35's main goal?

The current F-35 fighter jet program was based on the previous project called Joint Strike Fighter or JSF. It is a multi-national development effort between the United Kingdom, the United States, and other partner countries of the U.S.

Just like JSF, F-35 was supposed to be the single aircraft that is specifically designed to replace a wide range of air, ground, and strike fighter capabilities. As of the moment, F-35 has three variants.

These are specifically the F-35C, which is operated by the U.S. Navy in carrier operations, the F-35A, which provides conventional takeoff/landing and operated by the USAF, and the F-35B, which is still used by the U.S. Marines and provides conventional takeoff/landing.

What U.S. Air Force needs to develop a cheap aircraft

On the other hand, the United States Air Force is also making efforts to develop a new cheap fighter jet. Forbes reported that the military agency needs to embrace boondoggle, which was previously canceled even they even developed a prototype. This so-called boondoggle is the previous F-103, which is a cheap and lightweight rocketship. It is around 77-feet tall, from nose to tail. Click here if you want to know more info.
