Apple would replace a device for users if the damage is too severe to fix, but that would mean that users need to backup everything in the device and transfer it to the new smartphone, which is a hassle. However, recent reports suggest that Apple would no longer do this for the iPhone 12 users, as it now can fix drastic damages says the leaks.

The new memo also applies to people under the Apple Care service that extends the warranty of the device to almost four years since the device's original purchase date from authorized Apple retailers. According to 9 to 5 Mac, before this, customers that have Face ID Sensor malfunctions and cracked rear glass are subject to a new smartphone replacement from the company, free of charge. The warranty covers this as accidental damages and other types of customer insurance of the smartphone, but would still depend on the severity of the damage.
The "iPhone Rear System" Memo dictates that Apple would now allow AASP and its depot factories to replace different components of the iPhone 12, without the need for collecting it and replacing it for users. However, it is not yet available in Apple's Support and Warranty services as the replacement unit procedure is still observed by the Cupertino giant.
