Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 was previously released earlier last January, but there is no specific information regarding its performance, specs, and price. Now, more speculations appeared, which detail the features of this upcoming smartphone which is intended to be the budget-alternative device for the latest Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro.
According to GSM Arena, Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 is the company's upcoming rugged smartphone, which will be available only to businesses initially. This means that regular consumers can't buy the upcoming gadget even if they have the budget.
XCover 5 and XCover Pro's comparison
XCover Pro is a lot bigger than the upcoming Galaxy alternative. ZDNet previously reported that Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro has a 6.3-inches display, unlike the upcoming XCover 5 which only has a 5.3-inches LCD.
When it comes to resolution, XCover Pro still has the upper hand, with its 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution feature. On the other hand, the upcoming XCover 5 is expected to have a lower 720 x 1,600-pixel resolution screen.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy device will have the Exynos 850, which is an 8 nm chipset with eight Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G52 GPU. XCover 5 will also be equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. Aside from these, the new device will also arrive with a microSD slot if a particular application requires more memory.
On the other hand, the current Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro also has 64GB internal storage with a microSD card slot. This means that XCover 5 is on par with the higher-end device.
However, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 will have an upper hand when it comes to the smartphone system since it will have the latest Android 11, unlike the current XCover Pro which only has Android 10.0 + One UI 2.
Which one is better?
Right now, it is still hard to conclude which of the two Samsung Galaxy devices is better than the other. Since Samsung XCover 5 only costs around $360, users should expect some compromises compared to the current XCover Pro which has a higher price of around $600. However, there are also some areas that the budget Samsung Galaxy XCover has the advantage.
For example, the current XCover Pro doesn't support 5G internet connectivity. On the other hand, its budget-alternative is expected to be the first smartphone of Samsung that supports 5G connectivity. However, this device is lacking power when it comes to screen resolution. This could affect users' experience when they are playing games or doing other online tasks.
But, it will still have some handy features that will allow you to use it in more extreme environments. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 is expected to be IP68 dust and water-resistant. It could also carry a MIL-STD-810G qualification. The new XCover 5 is still a great Samsung smartphone with a low price.
