One of the easiest things that people can do in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus is to wear a mask, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC is teaming up with WarnerMedia in its attempt that pop culture favorites like Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, the Joker and Pennywise can convince the public to wear mask.

CDC teams up with WarnerMedia

The new ad, which was made by a partnership between the Ad Council, the CDC and WarnerMedia, shows a wide variety of WarnerMedia characters from popular films, but the characters are wearing masks that are digitally inserted.

The ad includes heroes like members of Justice League or members of the Fellowship of the Ring, even the villains masked up like the Joker while dancing on the stairs. Pennywise, the murderous clown demon, also sports a mask, although he uses a creepy, clown-faced one.

According to AdAge, the ad will run across the United States in donated media time, and it is free for broadcast and digital news outlets to use. WarnerMedia will run the ad on its own channels and platforms, including Turner TV channels and HBO.

The PSA runs for 30 seconds and it features memorable moments from WarnerMedia films, played out with one caveat. All of the characters are wearing masks. The battle scene from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is added and Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort wear masks.

Pennywise from the movie IT wears a smiling clown mask as a red balloon floats right in front of him. The Joker dances in the stair scene from the movie The Joker with a mask. Rick and Ilsa from Casablanca, Wonder Woman from the movie Wonder Woman and Dr. Evil from Goldmember are also included.

There is a text overlaid against each image of an American flag, it reads "Let's get back to doing our favorite things, whatever that might be. Slow the spread. Mask up America."

At the end of the ad, Harley Quinn from the Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey movie is seen hanging off a roof, but she is still wearing her mask.

New CDC guidance

The CDC recently released a new guidance that recommends people to double up on masks, with a cloth mask worn over a surgical mask for twice the protection, according to NBC News.

The CDC also advocates that the public tie the ear loops on their surgical masks so it won't slide off and it will fit perfectly.

According to The New York Times, the CDC's new research shows that transmission of the virus can be reduced by up to 96.5% if both infected people and an uninfected individual wear tightly fitted surgical masks or a combination of cloth and surgical mask.

Director of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, said that the findings during the White House coronavirus briefing and coupled them with a plea for the public to wear a well-fitting mask that has two or more layers.

Dr. Walensky said that with cases hospitalizations and death cases are still very high in the country, so it is still not the time to roll back the mask requirements.
