Hackers had recently targeted CD Projekt Red with a ransomware attack and now it seems like the very same ransomware hackers are now auctioning off the said stolen source code that they had acquired for a payday of a whopping potential millions of dollars.
'The Witcher 3' and 'Cyberpunk 2077' hacked source code being sold online
According to an article by The Verge, the breach was said to only be disclosed yesterday as it was only found out on Monday and it reportedly included critical game code that came related to some of the high-profile releases like "Cyberpunk 2077" as well as "The Witcher 3". CDPR then stated at that time that they actually had no intention of meeting the said hackers' demands. This meant that they would do that even if their stolen material coming from the hack would begin circulating online.
Some time earlier today, leaks of what seems to be potentially legitimate source code info had started to appear online in a few forums. This was noted on Twitter by vx-underground which is a cybersecurity account. The initial leak is also believed to include certain source code coming from CDPR's popular virtual card game called "Gwent". There was also reportedly more valuable source code that was found within the auctioned leak.
CDPR hacked (confirmed)
A cybersecurity firm known as KELA, however, which actually specializes in providing certain threat intelligence to a number of companies based on their analyses of the whole dark web websites as well as its communities note that it has reason to believe that the said auctions online are legitimate. Victoria Kivilevich, KELA intelligence analyst, was reportedly able to download some of the info noting it was legitimate.
KELA also notes that the auction is selling off source code files for both CDPR and Red Engine game releases which include "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt", "Cyberpunk 2077", and even the "Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales" spinoff. The said stolen material had also reportedly included some internal documents. As of the moment, however, it is not clear as to what types of documents or maybe other additional material is included in the full cache.

Auction starts soon
KELA notes that the starting price of the said auction is at $1 million along with higher bids in the said increments of a whopping $500,000 as well as a buy-it-now price of a whopping $7 million. It was also stated that only users who deposit 0.1 bitcoin will be able to participate. This is why Kivilevich actually believes that the said hackers are all serious about the hosted auction and the materials that are up for sale are most likely legitimate.
VX-undergroud also reportedly verified the said pricing terms of the given auction after KELA had given information to The Verge. The auction is expected to take place tomorrow at 5AM ET or 1PM Moscow Standard Time and run only for 48 hours after the last bid.
