Despite the company's general popularity, OnePlus has still lagged behind and known not to be doing quite well when it comes to one particular aspect. Although the company has been trying to downplay its flaws through the efforts of marketing, even Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO, had eventually admitted that its phone's cameras still ended up stepping up its game in order to keep up with the competition.

Oppo and Vivo: Leica and ZEISS

According to the article by SlashGear, the CEO promised to do so but with some external help. Given how the smartphone company's cousins Oppo and Vivo have already partnered with Leica and ZEISS, respectively, it was also expected that OnePlus would do exactly the same. Few, however, have probably expected that the company had decided to tie-up along with one of the least likely optics experts, at least majorly based on a particular shady leak.

Smartphone cameras are reportedly just as complicated in comparison to the distant full digital cameras and now, all of the smartphone manufacturers have their own expertise in order to pull off some great features. Some of them simply slap on some mass-produced components like sensors coming from Sony, OV, or Samsung, but others take a different route and try to strike up a certain partnership along with a few big names within the camera industry.

OnePlus 9 Pro leak

During the past few months, the popular Chinese smartphone manufacturers have publicly announced such ventures for them to improve their chances but this still makes OnePlus' potential partner come as a complete surprise. A leak had suggested that OnePlus would partner with Leica as well as Oppo's partnership along with the said optics company.

As far as certain smartphone cameras do go, Leica has definitely had some kind of experience dealing with manufacturers as well as peculiarities of adapting certain camera technologies to other mobiles. Based on a long series of certain hands-on photos that were given to Dave Lee, a YouTuber, however, the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro will bear Hasselblad's mark instead.

Hasselblad cameras

Hasselblad is also admittedly no stranger when it comes to smartphones. However, in comparison to both ZEISS and Leica, it could rarely lend its name to them. When it sometimes does, it still costs quite a huge sum which will then fall on consumers over the course of time. Also, the article by SlashGear also notes that having a camera expert's name on the said OnePlus 9 Pro's back still does not make things better so users will have to see just how the said team-up will eventually play out in practice presuming this would be an actual real deal.

The said hands-on photos also reveal a number of other details just like the phone's thinner metal frame needing a unique design in order to fit side buttons. There would also be a whopping 12GB of RAM as well as 256GB storage coming with a 120Hz 1440p screen. None of these is considered particularly new and it will still be down to the cameras themselves to make the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro more interesting.
