Sony DualSense PS5 Controller Patent Hints at WiFi Transceiver Upgrade for Better Latency!

Sony has been discovered to have a new patent sent to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website regarding an upgrade for its DualSense Controller for the PlayStation 5 that may improve connections. This time, the controller would make use of WiFi Transceivers and add them to the current Bluetooth connection to better gaming and controls.

The Japanese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate, Sony, has something up its sleeves to further the innovation of the recently released DualSense Controllers that came with the PS5's release. Initially, both the console and the controller were announced around September last year and were released in late November.

The DualSense is the only available product of Sony, as PlayStation 5 stocks continue to see a limited release and high demand in the global market. Fans are still aching to get their hands on the so-called next-generation console that would be promising a gaming experience that has no limits and incomparable to previous releases.

Sony Patent for DualSense PS5 Controller

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office's listing, Sony would want to introduce a new mode of input for the PlayStation 5's controller, to better connections and gaming control. The patent aims to introduce a WiFi Transceiver input on the DualSense Controller, which would connect with the PS5 via the wireless internet connection.

Since the PlayStation 3's DualShock 3, PlayStation 4's DualShock 4, and the latest DualSense of the PlayStation 5, all introductions and iterations of the wireless controllers have all been reliant on Bluetooth technology. However, Sony may be looking for a change, rather, an addition to its controllers that would possibly improve gaming.

Moreover, Sony's primary aim in adding WiFi Transceivers to the DualSense Controller technology is to better its latency and accuracy in response to commands executed by the gamer, and how it is received by the console. Latency is a massive thing in gaming, as it presents the delay in the commands and actions that correspond to a certain move in-game.

WiFi connections have been favored over Bluetooth for its faster transfer speeds and data connections, as it has been the standard for most wireless capabilities of any device. Apple's AirPlay, Android Screen Mirroring, WiFi Direct, etc., are examples of several WiFi-based wireless connections that prove to be better than wired and Bluetooth connectivity.

According to IGN's report, the dual connection and transceivers of a combined Bluetooth and WiFi transceivers in future releases of the DualSense would significantly improve gaming with its connectivity. Sony would not necessarily kick off Bluetooth, rather add another system in its connections with the DualSense, as the gaming console is already WiFi-enabled.
